NRAM/ OFT Call- Help!

We have some arrears with our NRAM mortgage but have an agreement in place to clear this.
This month's payment to them was slightly late- they recently changed their s/o account details and I forgot to change it. The payment is now with them.
Today got a default notice. I called them, and told them I have not been happy with NRAM since they changed from NR. The guy asked if I wanted to speak to someone independent and I said no. They said this months payment has been received, no issues, everything is as agreed.
Tonight at 7.45pm my husband got a call (mobile number) from a guy claiming to be from OFT and said Nram had been in touch and it would be advantageous for us to speak to him- he was aware we have been making payments but since NR had split entities there have been problems with payments being made to wrong accounts etc.
I called him back because I was out,and he called me back and said the same thing. He said he was going to come to the house with a letter, and I said you will not, you can post it. I did not instruct NRAM to contact anyone, the matter was resolved to everyone's satisfaction and no other person should be involved, with all due respect have no idea who you are etc.
He kept saying he was going to come to the house, and he said there may be a charge if we don't meet with him.
He gave me a reference number. I told him to post the letter, and I will contact NRAM directly.
I do not understand this, and would really appreciate advice- anyone with any experience of this? I will call NRAM tomorrow, but who is this guy, and if genuine, why are NRAM contacting him without my consent? OFT?
Any sensible responses gratefully received.

Hi
The OFT claim does not make any sense at all if we are talking about the Office of Fair Trading with the 7.45 call from a mobile even more bizarre.
This sounds a little like it may be an 'independent' agent from the lender wanting to come and talk to you about the arrears and your general finances / income / expenditure etc as a result of the arrears, maybe triggered by the default and a cross over in communication.
Check the terms and conditions of your mortgage for any of the above - there have been known to be charges for these type of 'visits' - I will say no more:)
If you have an arrangement in place and everything is now fine and sorted then you should not need any visit
See what NRAM say tomorrow
Just giving an opinion based on what you have put and let us know how you go on if possible0 -

If you fail to pay your mortgage to contractual terms then you are in default. What you feel about NRAM is irrelevant unfortunately.
Not wishing to sound harsh, but it is the reality of your situation.
No one will hand deliver a letter. So ignore the phone calls you are receiving.0 -
To clarify, NRAM said the default was issued, but on the same day the payment was made. Yes, we have arrears, but we have an agreement in place to repay these arrears, and all payments have been made- although yes, this month's one was late due to a delay in changing over the NRAM s/o detail.
My issue is whether this guy is from OFT or not, and also, if he is a 'field agent' from NRAM, would they not have advised this, instead of him saying he is from OFT?0 -
Telephone scammers claiming to be from the government, the Office of Fair Trading, a high street bank or a legitimate claims management company have been targeting consumers. [9 February 2011]

There are a number of scam companies, particularly claims management companies that pretend to be the FSA, FOS, FSCS, minstry of justice and OFT.
This is a fraud attempt. The OFT do not house call. They do not call you by any means.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Complain to NRAM about being contacted by an apparent scammer after you told one of their employees that you did not want to be contacted. It's possible that an employee has breached the confidentiality of your details and taken a bribe to pass them on to this company.0

Scams like this are best ignored and are not new

Unless NRAM confirm the caller is genuine and that it is a condition of the mortgage that you speak to this guy, ignore him. Did he say Office of Fair Trading or just OFT? If the former he has probably already broken the law.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
