Council Tax Banding

Hi
Can anyone help!
We live in a terrace consisting of four, three bedroom detached houses.
One has a double garage, one has a single garage, one has no garage and we have a single garage. The other three are on band D but we are on band E. We challenged this with the local Assessor and received a reply stating that because we have been in the house for fifteen years, we do not have a claim. Furthermore he hinted that we were in the correct band and maybe the neighbours banding should be changed.
If there is anyone with similar experiences/problems can you please advise best course of action.

Follow the instructions on site. Clearly you have a case and the responce you have had is similar to many. Are there any other houses similar to yours in Band D. Banding is on house valuations in 1993. What was your house's value using the Nationwide calculator?
Build a case, send the evidence and persist.

    Hi aadltd

It sounds like you have a good case for re-assessment. Although you cannot appeal if you have lived in the house for more than 6 months you can ask the Valuations Office to review your Council Tax Band (don't ask me what the difference is).

Look at Page 2 of this link

where I have explained the procedure. If successful you can claim back the difference in Bands to April 1993.

    Good Luck

But at least you can be miserable in comfort
