Hi OS Superstars ...
Please can anyone let me know if there is a quick way to do baked potatoes with no microwave?
Is it ok to boil them whole and then pop them in the oven to crisp up, or will they taste strange?
TIA

Cant say I've tried it but find that most tatties do ok wrapped in foil for first 1/2hr in very high oven then finished off un wrapped till crispy. I should imagine a whole baked spud might take 1/2hr to boil so not much difference time wise?I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

You can put a skewer through them. it helps the middle cook quicker and a hot oven.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

I used to pop a metal bbq skewer throught the centre and the heat would be conducted to the centre, seemed to work....:beer:0

Just wrap them in foil turn it up full blast for about 40 minutes and then put back in after for 10 minutes to crisp up. before you wrap them in foil stab them with a knife or fork a few times

Yes you leave it in ( I've done it with more than one skewer per potato and it 's even quicker )0

Have never noticed any difference in taste and have always par-boiled before roasting (usually because I didn't want to wait a couple of hours) with metal skewer through. Also choose smaller potatoes. If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0

in the pub where I used to work my landlady used to do baked spuds for the darts team at half time - unfortunately she only had about 40 mins to do them............so she cut the potatoes in half lengthways and scored them in crosses on the cut top, smeared with butter, then bunged in the oven on highest setting - they were lovely!0
