Hi all,
I've recently have been told I have been successful in getting a position I have wanted within the company I have worked for for the past 6 years.
I currently work in two seperate roles, with two seperate managers, with two different sets of priorities in two seperate parts of the company. The one boss (Boss A) I am going to work for full time is excellent. The other, (Boss
not so much. I spent the first 12 months going home and crying every day as he spoke to me like I was dirt. He's a very aggressive person and I have witnessed him drive people to sobbing on many occasions. To be honest, I had no choice but to stay and put up with it. I was brought up not to be on benefits if a job is available and live on my own and have no family to financially support me. I tried looking for other roles, but had no success. I considered going to HR with a complaint, but the entire higher level of the company are married/dating/family.
Anyway, I recently applied (with permission from both managers) to work in a specialised department in which I enjoy within the company. It will mean not working for Boss B anymore and working for Boss A instead. I plucked up the courage to talk with Boss B face to face to explain what I wanted to do and discuss how this may effect him. He originally was very aggressive, and then suddenly had a change of heart and said he wouldn't mind and would support me. He then proceeded to tell me how proud he was of me and that he would miss me working for him. It came as a surprise, after 6 years of being made to feel like the worst employee in the world, hearing that.
Anyway, I was told yesterday that I had been successful in gaining the position I wanted, and it was all up to Boss B to confirm the date in which I could transfer over.
Boss B came into the office shortly after with a face like thunder. He then proceeded to very loudly shout about how I disprespected him by what I've done and he doesn't want to let me go. I was quite shocked but tried to talk to him calmly. He then backed down saying he would plan a date for me.
I'm now being given more work by Boss A which I was supposed to be doing in my new role when it starts, which I wouldn't mind, if Boss B wasn't flinging every little bit of work at me. Its as if he's gone into panic and hes realised he hasn't done so many things.
I'm hoping that by the end of next week a date with be finalised, but I was just wondering if anyone else had been in this position and how they dealt with it?
I feel myself losing patience more and more and can't wait for the weekend, but dreading coming back in. I feel like a punching bag at the moment!
I suppose I'm just looking for a bit of emotional advice on how to deal with such a difficult situation.
Thanks

Tell boss A that you can't do any new work till B lets you go as you are very busy with new work rather than less.
Even consdier letting A know about the issues(very brief) and you want to move ASAP can thye get this sorted.
Do they have the same boss above them, let this one get fought out at boss level and above, there is a chance B may stall unless they get told by their boss to let you go.
You could tackle boss B(but sounds risky) by asking who are you handing over too so you can start the handover.0 -
Good idea! Thank you!
I may ask him when he would like my handover prepared by and who I will be handing over too.
My main worry is Boss B is the most disorganised individual I have ever met. I wonder sometimes how he manages to get dressed and to work in the mornings! I know that he'll leave it until the last second to recruit a new person for him.
No, both Boss A and B have different people above them. When I say it's totally different departments, it may aswell be two different companies.
Communication is not their strong point!
I'm due to meet with Boss A next week for wage negotiations (yep, it's actually the title of the meeting I've been invited too!!!!!) and I think I will mention that I can't start any of the new job without letter go of Boss B.
Thanks again!!!0 -
OK look up the tree to the common boss.
Who are the main players on this new job, A and above
You need to get them asking the questions on why you have not started yet.
Allthough I am suprised there is still outstanding renumeration issues.
Another option is to just pick someone else that works for B and handover to them, To boss B, Susie is best person to do my work I have got her started on the handover should be done by the end of next week.0 -

Stop worrying about Boss B,there is absolutley no need, especially after the way he has treated you.
Let him get on with it. Its his problem, not yours.
Good luck in your new job.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for the replies guys

The pay negotiations are taking place as I want 2k more than they are offering. I was told to do a presentation as to why I should get a higher rate of pay, so I have! ^.^
I should of made the tree of management clearer...
Boss A is top dog in the department I'm going to work in fully
Boss B is top dog in the department I mainly work in now
Therefore there really isn't anybody above them. They are 50/50 owners!
I am also the ONLY person who works directly for Boss B, so doing the handover myself can't happen as there is nobody to hand over too at all. I.E I'm currently sat in an office with one desk in.
It's a really tricky situation and obviously I don't want to anger either of them. I've tried and continue to try to deal with it as professionally as possible (even if I did nearly have a heart attack when I had to tell Boss B about my wishes to move over!) but it seems Boss B is very bitter. I guess time will tell!
Thank you for your responses

I'd ask boss A how they would like you to handle this and prepare a handover of the basics so that you can actually 'hand it over' asap.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

OK not so easy.
Does A have someone spare that can work for B.
Does B really need anyone
Can you start the recruitment process for B if they are just going to wait.
What about temps?
NOt sure how you extract yourself if all the obvious things won't work
Looking more like A&B need to get together and come up with a plan.0
