Credit Card Debt sold to mkdp - what now?

So, I have £5500 of debt on a barclaycard, I've missed some payments as I was unable to afford them - I burried my head in the sand as I've been going through a divorce and suffering with depression.

I received a letter last week from barclaycard advising that they had sold the debt to mkdp.

Mkdp have now written me saying that they are still waiting for an offer from me - I have had no previous communication from them.

I accept the debt is mine, and if I could I would like to pay it off in full, however with my present circumstances this is not possible.

So my questions are:

1) What do they mean by an offer? Do they mean I could suggest a (total?) figure I could pay (loan from family???) - what would be considered a reasonable offer??

2) Could I offer to pay by installments? - would they consider £50 per month?

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with these companies?

I assume my credit rating has/will be affected, but obviously I want to minimise this as much as possible.

Thanks for any advice

    Either 1 or 2.

If you cant offer a full settlement figure - or rather one they will accept, then they will want a payment plan. If you offer a plan you will need to back up what youi offer with a SOA to justify why you can only pay what you are offering.

Oh - if its been sold on, then it is already going to be recorded as a default on you record, that wont change and will show for 6 years. If you pay if off it will be recorded as either settled (best) or partially settled (2nd best) both of which are better than nothing BUT the default will still be there, so it wontmake much difference for the next 2 years or so even if you settle. it will make a difference after that though.
