Weekly or monthly shopping?

I think 'as and when' shopping is fine provided you have the time and are very disciplined. There are far too many posts on here about people who go for a pint of milk and come out £10 worse off.
Personally, I like weekly shopping but I do have really well stocked freezer and storecupboard so I'm really buying fresh stuff and meat/cheese/fish/storecupboard staples etc when I see them on offer. It wouldn't be practical to buy all my fresh veg/fruit monthly so my shopping almost equates to some people's top up.
Also there's the risk that OP mentioned of eating too much at the start of the month.0

If you just want a few items like milk, bread etc, just go to those aisles. You are not forced to go down every aisle. If you see a YS, think do I want it, can I do anything with it or have room in the freezer. If any of these answers is a No, leave it.
We get customers asking me what to do with a papaya as they found it in the reduced. If you don't know, don't buy it!0

Oh yes, I don't buy YS for the sake of it, yesterday they actually had some cheese slices in Asda that were reduced by a huge 10p! Needless to say there were tons left even late in the day. If I used cheese slices I may have asked the assistant to knock a bit more off but I don't.
 I only bother if I know I'll use it/it can freeze/it's a decent saving.0
