Nationwide experiences

Hi!

I'm just wondering of anyone has any experiences of nationwide account they held prior to BR to share?

We currently have a cashcard+ account, as this is so basic I was really hoping that they'd let us keep it- we have never had any debts with nationwide.

Anything to share?

  • In the same position here but with Halifax on a DRO - and they have allowed my accounts to remain open

My intermediary did say it should be ok if there are no debts ;)
good job because both the Co-op and Barclays wouldn't let me have or keep accounts (Barclays understandable I must say)

I don't know but I do get the feeling basic accounts could be on the change !? I've held basic accounts eg. easycash or the Lloyds cash card quite a while (where your not able to use card at pay at the pumps or where it was an electron card) and notice some banks are now trying to make them more like current accounts these days using the line of it is our lowest current account, I'm finding it is really bizzare now I'm in a formal solution for this to happen, to know I've now got an account likely to be able to go 'overdrawn' :( not that I would ever want to try it out, but how easy could it be to get someone back in a postion of unwanted credit!

The only truely BR friendly accounts are the Co-op Cash
Minder and the Barclays Cash account. The others are extremely hot and miss, what one person gets another won't and to be honest it is not worth the risk of them suddenly closing the account on you a few month down the line. If they do let you keep it then you have the bonus of access to two bank accounts at two different banks.

Have a read of the bank account sticky.

We had a full joint flexaccount prior to BR. No debt on it.

Nationwide left it open but downgraded it to the Cashcard + account which we have used ever since. Fingers crossed you get the same result :)

I had a Nationwide account before going BR, as the OR didn't want to look into that account she said it was OK if I kept it but that would be up to Nationwide, they didn't have a problem either :j

just to add my OR did say she would have to ring them and tell them it was not an account she was looking into and that I was now BR and that I could mention it too, if I remember rightly she didn't say I had to tell them as she had to do it by law, I think she just told me to mention it to them to put my mind at ease, I choose not to as I felt the more people who got involved the more chance the account would be closed.

The OR knows who to deals with at the banks,I would have just been able to speak to the counter staff which is not the best as some/all Nationwide branches or only agents so who is to say what they would have done, just something to keep in mind.
