    Of course, it's also the case that in order to qualify for protection the foodstuff concerned must possess some qualities or characteristics that are derived from the geography of the area concerned (or some similar legalese). I think it would be difficult to construct an argument that a mixture of flour, egg, and milk, prepared and cooked in an oven in Yorkshire is somehow different from one prepared and cooked in an oven anywhere else in the world.

    The Black refers to the region of "Schwarzwald" (black forest) where it is produced.

    Black Forest ham is essentially smoked parma ham.

    as above mentions its a german product rather than Italian.
