Recipe idea:
1 tin Tuscan bean/mixed bean soup
Half a tin of water
1 tin of fish, meatballs, hotdogs or steak in gravy
Either: Instant mash, white rice, tinned spuds, couscous or bread.
Take all tinned ingredients (including tinned spuds if using) and put in pan or large microwavable bowl. Mix together - cut or break up any particularly large lumps and heat through thoroughly.
Serve on top of cooked portion of mash, rice, or couscous, or with a slice(s) of bread or toast, or serve as is if using tinned spuds.
Serves 2-3 portions, add tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, sweetcorn, beans, or extra tin of soup (can also add any tomato based soup, lentil or even veg soup) if you need to feed more.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Sorry, part-baked bread doesn't usually have to be refridgerated but if it's to be stored for any length of time outside of a freezer (and, in a foodbank, you never know how much food of any kind will be given out), it has to be kept cool, unless vacuum packed.
It's amazing just who can need help at short notice. We were told of a very well-dressed lady who turned up at a food bank in the county, with two equally well-dressed children, and a luxury car parked outside. Her husband had walked out on her, for another woman, and had cleared all the money out of their joint bank accounts. The poor woman had nothing with which to buy the kids a meal.0 -
Some people have mentioned beans. I presume this includes the student and store cupboard classic of baked beans?
And I agree, don't discount tinned ready meals. It is possible to be too OS.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Sorry I should have pointed out I would always specify vacuum packed if we're not talking about tinned or dried goods.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Has tinned rice pudding been mentioned - that's always cheap and filling, hot or cold, with or without fruit or jam or syrup etc.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I suppose it's all relative because some people will know what to do with a bag of basic stuff and will be able to make it into all sorts, and others won't have a clue. Some will have access to better cooking facilities than others. All should be grateful people are willing to help!
digestive biscuits with cheap chocolate spread
digestive biscuits with sliced apple or pear
instant gravy--makes bread and gravy, pour over instant mash
instant custard sachet
7p smart price batter mix for yorkshires or pancakes
40p bag smart price bag of rice
24p smart price long spaghetti
20p smart price dried mixed herbs(throw in a frying pan with 20p tinned potatoes)
smart price cup-a-soups (throw in a handful of cooked pasta)
