Mole removal

Hi,

I want to get a mole and a skintag removed and I'm looking for advice and info about it and where I should have it done.

I'd like to find somewhere that doesn't charge too much ideally! I want them both removed for purely cosmetic reasons so don't think I could get them done at the doctors.

The mole is a raised mole on my ribcage area and I really dislike it. I'm not concerned about scarring or it still being mole coloured - I just want to get rid of the raised bit. The skintag is just below my armpit.

Does anyone have any experience with this and any advice? Anything I should be asking about when I speak to places? Any recommendations on good value places to try? I went to one place a couple of months ago to get some information - it seemed quite pricey and the receptionist gave me such a hard sell that I got overwhelmed and haven't done anything about it since!

I live in Brighton.

Thanks everyone!

Go to your GP first, Ive had 2 removed with no problem at all.

They may just do it, its a 2 minute job in the surgery.
Not sure about the skin tag but cant see it being any more of a problem than a mole.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

My son had two removed around 6 weeks ago. One on his neck, one on hos back. They were raised, he quite often caught them with bags etc.,

He had them done on the NHS with no probs, just went to the GP and said they were irritating.

i had some moles removed by the doctor. not all doctors can do it, but some can. I think there's one doctor in my surgery qualified to do it, and it's free. they usually inject it with a numbing agent; though I only had that for a larger mole on my scalp, then they use like a hot knife to slice it off.

go and talk to your gp and say they're bothering you; if he can't remove them I'm sure he'll know who can

I had a mole on my collar bone change shape/size so went to my GP who referred me to a consultant dermatologist at my local NHS hospital. Took about 4/5 weeks for an appointment. Consultant said it was fine but they removed it there and then - local anaesthetic, sliced off, sealed with heat. Took less than 5 minutes. BUT - under current financial situation I do wonder if this sort of treatment trusts will be looking to cut back to save money.

I would have said go to your GP but my daughter who had a small mole by her lip was told to monitor the size for a few months and then go back and they would remove it.
When she went back they said they would not longer do it as it was cosmetic surgery and she would have to go private. They also said they were unable to recommend where to have it done and she would have to look around for herself (now with all the horror stories of cosmetic surgery going wrong you think they would pass on a reputable place or sent you private through referral).
This is the same surgery that sent me to another local surgery to have two removed a few years ago!

But I would still check this out with your GP as it might only be some practises that are saying this to cut down on their costs!

A friend of mine has recently had a mole removed from her upper rib cage (her bra was rubbing on it). She had it done at her Dr's surgery and has had no problems.

I think my GP enjoys the chance to do minor surgery so he's removed two or three for me with no quibbling.

One thing I did notice especially last time was that although it was only a local anesthetic, it did knock the stuffing out of me out for the rest of the day, so make sure you can get home to the sofa with minimum fuss! Years ago I made the mistake of driving to an appointment to have a mole removed on my temple, and I felt very odd driving home again.

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely try my doctor as a first port of call then. I shall report back!
