Job Title/Job Offer

Hi all, long time lurker who has decided to join as I need some advice. I recently applied for a job, interview last week and found out I'd got the job :T Anyway, I've now received my job offer in writing and have found that the job title is different to the one I applied for. Has anyone had this situation before?
I've already brought it up with employer and they say the title in the letter is correct. I'm now not sure what to do as I feel the "new" job title will make it look like a step backwards on my CV for the future and if I'm being brutally honest I wouldn't have applied for the job if I had seen it advertised under this title.
Alternatively, the job description hasn't changed any and I still want the job, just under the original advertised title! Any advice?
Cheers
Andy

It's more about what you do at the job compared to the job title.
I have worked in places where we had a supervisor who did nothing to supervise and I did a lot of their job but never had the title or the salary to go with it and now it's hindering me at application stage now I am looking for a new job. Did the role but didn't have the job title.0 -
So, since I have been doing the type of work I do now my salary has increased about eight fold. My titles starting from the oldest however have been:
Project Executive
Project Manager
Senior Project Manager
Product & Project Manager
Product Development Manager
Senior Project Manager
Group Project Manager
Project Manager
So right now I have the same job title as I had 8 years ago despite the income difference. I've even had calls from agents offering "Project Director" offering less than I had in my very first project job.
Dont get too hung up on titles, people know that companies call the same job different things and it is more about what you were doing that is important0 -
Thanks, I'm still undecided what to do. Just disappointed as its put a bit of a downer on things!0

What are the two titles? Is it the difference between Senior xxx and Assistant XXX or on a lesser scale? If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
