Hi ya everyone, Ive been a lurker for quite some time now and thought today I should take the plunge and register. You all have great advice and information I thought you would be the best to help me if you could and wouldnt mind.:o
Right then, where do I start? I got married about 6 years ago and found out accidentally that my husband had in the region of £25,000+ of debts. We contacted a debt company who were supposed to be taking direct debits to pay for it but it seems that they havent been taking money from us, so in affect the debts arent being paid. Since we have been sending all our letters to the debt company we (I) have no idea of what he owes and how much trouble were in. Weve asked the debt company if they could send us back our things and they seem to be dragging their feet. If we dont get them back how else could I find out how much money my husband is owing?
I dont know what to do, our marriage is seriously on the rocks, Im dealing with all his debts myself and I really need to organise it for my own health:o
Thanks

Thats my problem, because we were told to send everything straight to the debt company I have no idea who he owes the money to and they wont give any information out over the phone.

Hi there and well done for posting. If you are unsure of how much is owed and who to, log on to Experian and Equifax to basically get your credit report. This will list all the people who are owed money. Or if you know them anyway, you will need to get in touch with the creditors and explain the situation.
Just take a deep breath. You are wanting to sort it and not ignore it, so at the moment it seems a bit daunting. Probably fear of the unknown, but it will get easier once you have all the facts in front of you. You can then continue to the next phase.
Go to creditexpert.com and sign up for their 30 day free trial. Just remeber to cancel it before the 30 days are up else they will charge you 5.99 per month.0 -

Great thanks, Ill try that now. Would they give me my husbands report though or would he have to do it?
Because were married do his debts automatically become mine now too, would they be on my credit report?
Thanks:T0 -
Also who are this debt company? Someone else on here may have had some dealings with them so may be able to offer some advice from that point of view. Have they offered any explanation as to why the direct debits have not been taken? And were they charging you a fee?0

It should be your husbands credit report you need. It should actually be him doing it, but I got my OH's (with his permission of course) as he is not one to sort anything out himself. Although as you are married you will no doubt be financially linked to him, so it may be worth getting yours so you know the full picture.0 -
Hi ya, the debt company was/is Debtcare.
They havent given us any reason why our direct debits havent been taken and weve also had to give our details about 3 times to them with still no luck.
When we first signed up with them they were taking money (for about 3 months or so) but then they stopped and couldnt explain why. Included in the amount we were supposed to be paying would have been a fee for them.
Weve been phoning them a few times a week for about 4 weeks now too, every person we have talked to hasnt had a clue on the way thngs work. One of them even said to us that they had sent our details to our old address and because it was a mistake they would send someone from their office to the house and request them back!
Honestly theres things like that they say everytime we phone. Avoid them!
Ive had a look at Experian and have to wait until my husband comes home to fill out the form. Thanks0 -
Debtcare dont and have never have taken payments by direct debits. Always standing order which your bank would send to the company.0
