Welcome car finance

Options
Hi
Wanted to find out a little info on where I stand with a hp agreement with welcome we had a 4 year agreement we paid nearly 3 years then had a change of circumstances and could no longe afford it so we missed a payment and told welcome they have to take the car as we can no longer afford it but this was in September last year and we have not paid anything since but the car is still sat on my drive as we have not used it since. My question is do theyvhave a time frame that they have to take the car back as its been do long now and they have not even contacted us in over 4 months to chase a payment ? At the start of the loan they messed up the contract at least 5 times as they kept losing them! The only letter they sent was in march when we was 6 months behind saying we had an arrears of one month to pay?
Sorry for long thread and lots of questions :-)

  • I know it might seem like a good idea to say and do nothing but, it is in your best interest to contact them and sort this out.

Although they haven't contacted you, all kind of things might have happened on their side...

They might be adding some serious interest to your account, your credit score might be damaged and you might end up in court for non payment.

The car has lost value since September so you might owe much more than you thing if they take it back.

I remember Welcome not being very nice people so be warned!

Push it to your nearest cliff, set fire to it and then send it over.

In the meantime, expect Welscum to be adding interest, wacky charges, more silly charges and then some on top.

Can you not sell it and clear the debt?

Have you checked your credit file to see what arrears are on there...?
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • It's not up to them to collect the car. It's up to you to deliver it to them. Check your agreement - it will say you have to return the car.

From my personal experience, when you are so far through your HP the car is yours. The company wont take it. (we was with close motor finance) In the beginning they can take the car back when you fall in arrears but after a certain percentage is paid I believe the car belongs to you. Anyways, we had to sell our car and use the money to clear the loan when we was in our last year of HP as we just couldnt keep scraping through the monthly payments.

Regards Welcome. They are in 'default' or something? Something to do with all the PPI reclaiming. I know as we have a loan with them. We are on token payments to them. A couple of years ago if you missed a payment they would ring, send letters etc now if we miss a payment you dont hear anything. Not had a statement in nearly a year so we are hoping we get a statement soon to acknowledge the payments we have made. On their website it explains how they are in default and not taking new customers but existing ones need to keep paying their debts.

    Hope to help

  • I have had convoluted dealings with Welcome - beware of them not contacting you, they are adding ££££s to your debt to them every day! If you do need to contact them to work things out, work very, very hard to get things that they agree with you in writing and also make a recording on an MP4 player or similar of any telephone conversations and get the full name and work title of anyone you are dealing with. They are very tricky people to deal with - good luck!
