Help please with injury at work

I am wondering if anyone is able to help me with information about Industrial injuries disbalement benefit?
I have just been sent a leaflet on the above by my union. They sent it because I have now been of work for nearly two months after being assaulted by a pupil. The union are looking at the circumstances of the assault and whether I can claim criminal injuries compensation.(see below)
I had initially aproached the union as I was unhappy about a visit from the management which I felt implied I should seek another job. This matter has been resolved directly with my workplace following the advise of the union on how to proceed. I am satisfied with the resolution.
The union also asked that I fill in the form about the injury to cover me in the case of any ongoing dispute with the management and urged me to consider seeking compensation. This is not something I had considered.
I am still off work undergoing physio and am not sure when I will return. At present I am on full pay. Should I apply for this benefit in case I am off longer than the full pay period?

Reporting a work accident - if you don't need to make a claim straight away
You can apply for a declaration that you have had an industrial accident, even if you do not want to claim any benefit right away. You can do this on the form available for download http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Bfsl1/BenefitsAndFinancialSupport/DG_10018839
It's a good idea to apply for a declaration if you are not disabled immediately after your accident, but you think you may experience some problems in the future as a result.0
