sorry I'm remembering stuff all the time so posting again rather than editing my old posts so you don't miss it.
Not sure ringing the IVA people will be a good idea, it maybe if they are a good IVA but some will pressure you into not going BR and may give you the wrong info, rember some IVA people make a lot of money from people on IVA so it is in their interest to keep you on one.0 -

:rotfl:mate leave them well alone, you can do the paper work yourself as they are not that hard or one of the help lines will help for free and we can help too.
I would not ring them untill you know what you want to do, then just stop paying them and go BR with advice form a help line.0 -

BR lasts for a max 12 months but could be sooner if they are not busy and discharge you sooner, if you have to make a payment as you have spare income then you pay that for 3 years.
I didn't have a payment so was all done and dusted after 12 months as I didn't get an early discharge.0 -

The cost of BR is currently £700, the court fee of £125 you may be entitled to remission for depending on your income the remaining £525 needs to be paid.
Your family are right in that the debt you owe them will be taken into the BR and 'written off' with all the other debt. This does upset family understandably as they feel deceived and let down. Many people choose to reassure the family that once the BR has ended, that even though they are not obliged to, that they will pay them back at a later date and that often salvaged relationships. But to disown someone is really poor and I'm sorry they are threatening you this way.
I take it that you are not in receipt of housing benefit as you are living with family members? It sounds as if you would be entitled to HB so if you were to find your own place away from family you would be entitled to some HB and CTB in your new place so I would not let this threat be part of the decision you make. However do take proper legal advice from one of the FREE charities before making your decision, for instance the Citizens Advice Bureau."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0 -
