E Bay - The Feedback System Doesn't Work

There are many genuine eBayers who are encouraged (by eBAY) to report scams and con men who sell bootleg DVDs for instance. We are told to leave negative feedback to warn other genuine eBayers. BUT THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK SO THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL GENUINE E BAYERS!!
I recently paid instantly by Paypal for a DVD. I had a 100% feedback rating which I was proud of. The DVD arrived and it was a bootleg - complete with purple colour playing surface. I issued negative feedback to this seller. In return he issued negative feedback for me saying I did not pay; which is ridiculous as he wouldn't have sent me the DVD if I hadn't paid!
I requested a Paypal refund, and asked eBay to wipe out the unfair negative feedback. They said they would not do this without obtaining a court order, even though their sister company PayPal could prove that I had paid, that the negative comment made by this con man was a lie and that I was willing to hand over the offending DVD to eBay.
The upshot is that this con man has now stopped dealing on eBay under that name, and I am left with negative feedback which is unfair.
My question to eBay is this - WHY DO YOU ENCOURAGE GENUINE PEOPLE TO HELP YOU MAKE E BAY A SAFER AND BETTER PLACE, AND THEN TREAT US LIKE CRIMINALS? WHERE IS THE INCENTIVE FOR ANY GENUINE E BAYER TO HELP E BAY HIGHLIGHT THESE CRIMINALS?
My own advice now is to NEVER leave negative feedback because you will only get negative feedback for your troubles. That means clearly BECAUSE OF E BAYS POLICY OF NEVER TAKING OFF UNFAIR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK WITHOUT COURT ORDERS WHICH COST MONEY that the Feedback system does not work and is ineffective.
Do other readers feel that EBAY must change their policy?

I totally agree with you sturadio. I recently bought some software off a Powerseller on ebay and when it arrived it was a pirated copy! So I asked the seller for a refund...and he actually refunded me and also included in his email that he would only leave feedback on a "like for like" basis..in other words..if I Neg him he'd retaliate and Neg me. I have a 100% feedback and want to keep it that way..so all I could do was report him and item number to the ebay copyright infringemant page. Ebay replied with an email thanking me for my information "which would be thoroughly investigated". This was a month ago...and what have ebay done?
Nothing!
He is still a Powerseller selling pirated MS Office 2003!!
I do believe though that Ebay should review their policy on removing Negs especially if they have come from a NARU'd user.0 -
I also had a case where a buyer didnt pay so went through the process of claiming my fees back within 1 hour of doing this I suddenly get an email from said buyer claiming it was my fault that ebay had NARU`d them, and if I didn`t help get it sorted so they could trade again they threatened to destroy my 100% feedback
I also agree ebay need a massive rethink on the feedback issue
Sturadio the only advice I can offer is make sure you get across in your follow-up comments that you are not to blame for this .... people will quickly work out which person is telling the truth0 -
This also really bugs me. What really bugs me as a seller is that if you get a non paying bidder and you file a complaint and you win so getting your fees back, why should that person still be able to leave feedback for you?
I think it would be fairer if once you have claimed your final value fees due to a non payer they should lose the right to leave feedback. I have got one non payer at the moment, and i am to scared to leave a neg as he seems to do it to everyone and then neg them back :mad:0 -
I bought some PC hardware, and the seller said they would only send it Special Delivery, for peace of mind. I paid extra postage to cover the Special Delivery fees.
I was cross when the item arrived normal post in an ordinary brown envelope. The envelope was torn and the packaging of the hardware was badly damaged, although the actual item was ok.
I complained to the seller and asked to refund my Special Delivery fees as I felt she was misleading people by asking for extra postage fees then using normal post. All I got was abuse back.
I left a neg warning people of this practice, and got a neg back. I thought that was unfair as I paid within a few hours of the auction ending.
Ebay were no use at all, and she is still trading. Here I go again on my own....0 -
thats not fair is it becles, but this is whats wrong with the feedback system. But i cant think of an alternative to this system can anyone else?0

Why does everyone get so het up over a neg?
I buy quite a lot from ebay and one of the first things I do is check the sellers feedback. If there is one or two negs I go looking at the feedback of the person who neg'd. Is usually easy to spot when there is a problem with a seller rather then just a one off problem. I dont look at the percentage I look at what buyers are actually saying before I make up my mind to bid.
If people werent so sacred about giving a neg the system would work a hell of a lot better imo0 -
To look at it from a buyers point of view...... I ALWAYS have a quick surf of the feed back. If its only one or 2 n a hundred, or a couple of negs and neutrals in 500 it would not bother me. Anything going into double figures and I would worry as to what was happening, even if there were thousands of sells! Then read I would read more thouroughly and probably not buy, though depending on why so many negs, are they recent or from along time ago. Yhere are other sellers out there.
So I would not would not worry too much. I have got cought out twice. My first purchase was a non sender (beginners bad luck and got nothing back ).0 -

i am the same, i have left a few negs usually for non payment, on occasion I have emailed the seller, then left a neg, mostly due to high postal costs...... ie charged £4, recieved recycled envelope and 40p stamps.........
i have received 4 negs, my % rate is still 99%+
you could always follow the 90 day rule, wait until the 90th day then leave the feedback..smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
