I just get mine from Lidl - 10 for 85p! And they are bigger than the Tesco Value ones! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Time for the hens to have a poorer standard of living if we are to get cheaper prices!
Their cages must be like the Ritz these days to have such dear prices!
Are you serious?? This is what its like for a caged hen http://media.treehugger.com/assets/images/2011/10/chickens-in-cages.jpg
This is why I never buy eggs from caged hens, no matter how cheap they are0 -

Are you serious? You show a photo with no indication of when it was taken and imply that is what it is like today. That photo could have been taken in 1970 for all we known.

With the amount of eggs from caged hens being sold as free-range, you probably do.0 -

ASDA SP 15 eggs were still on sale (despite not being on the website) for £1.25 yesterday. They (and Tesco, it seems) put the price up to £1.56 every so often to be able to say that £1.25 is a reduction.
New enhanced cages became law throughout the EU earlier this year. If any member countries still had one supplier with the old cages, then none of that country's eggs (even from the compliant suppliers) could be legally exported. The new law forced many smaller suppliers to kill their flocks. As a result, Spain is now an importer of eggs. (How do you make a Spanish omelette? Import 4 eggs, ...)
Fortunately, the UK is self-sufficient for whole eggs and only imports bulk egg powder for commercial baking. It would seem that the baking industry has been able to find the eggs it needs without having to buy whole eggs at any price and the fears of massive price increases were unfounded. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
