JD Williams debt / Provident

Hi all,
I know there has been similar threads on this subject before and I have read them but I have had some trouble with this that I need to ask some advice on.
I have one debt left to clear! Its with JD Williams and literally I just forgot about it, eventually I got a letter from Provident to say that JD Williams sold the debt to them blah blah blah....
So I called JD Williams and said I just wanted to the pay the money to them - the full £166 in one payment. They said its passed to Provident you need to speak to them. So the provident guy says I need the details from the letter we sent you - which I dont have - explained I dont have the letter and can he not just pull up my details from address/ name - he says no I cant do anything without the letter or I can get an agent out to come see you about an arrangement. I made it very clear to him that I did not want any agents coming to visit and I was not prepared to enter in to an agreement with provident as I had the means to just repay the money all at once. He refused to do anything further and just said those were my only two options.
Where do I go from here? I know my rights that I dont have to deal with Provident but how do I get them to give the debt back to JD williams so I can just pay the money back to them??
thank you!!

Hi
If the debt has been sold to provident (rather than just them acting on JDW behalf) then you will have to deal with them.
But of course you don't need to enter into a new agreement with them (and certainly don't sign any agreement from them).
How long ago did they write to you?
Did you lose the letter?
If you don't do anything they will probably write again. Or you could write to provident with your details and stating that they sent you a letter which you have unfortunately lost and will they please send the letter again.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks - so I should be able to pay the amount of without having to enter into an agreement with them? thats the last thing I want to do!
I did lose the letter originally - after some searching the other day I do know have it so I will phone again. I just dont want to have to dealt with them at all - it irritates me haha. My own fault though I suppose!
thanks for the response

You don't need to enter into any agreement with them.
If you are going to pay by phone get a reference number from them for your payment - you don't want to be chased again.
If you pay by cheque its best to send recorded deliv (and keep copies of the letter and either a copy of the cheque or cheque number) so you have proof that its paid.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi,
I used to be a Provident agent and I am assuming this debt has been bought from JD Williams, hence why you have to deal with Provident.
Provident will add no interest and usually offer a weekly payment scheme. I suspect though that if you have the means to pay it all in one go then you can simply sign up to a weekly agreement and settle it on week 1.
Hope this helps.Start (27 March 2012): £25,683.20
