Mortgage Brokers, Help Needed

Hi there,
I'm looking for some info/help regarding mortgage brokers, i'm going through a messy divorce at the minute and took advice from a mortgage broker regarding best possible mortgage deals(had no time to look myself), but ended up buying a 50% share in a property rather than 100%,thus my mortgage is £18,000 now rather than about £60,000.
The fee i'm being charged was £400 and hasn't changed even though i'm borrowing alot less, also the best deal he found was with the Halifax(who i've had my last 4 mortgages with) and who I currently have all my accounts with.
Am i tied in to go with the broker after seeking his advice no money is changing hands till the mortgage starts?
Thanks In advance for any help,Ronnie

I would say it depends if you have signed anything - take all the paperwork and info that you have been given to another broker - one that is whole of market or has a decent amount of products to look at (At least 25+ Lenders) as that should give you a good indication to how good or bad your own adviser is. You shouldnt pay a fee for the advice and if the £400 is their fee and not the halifax's then I would get those running shoes on.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
