Morning people!
So yesterday I was offered a Managers job for a large telcoms company....great :j but oh no! Last week the job was advertised at £24k plus a 20% bonus, on that basis I applied (only 1 other applied). My manager suggested I applied as this is the next step and I have been doing the same job at agent wage for 4 months.
So application in and interview done, I am offered the job....but there of course was a BUT....its under the understanding I accept at £21k, which is what I am on now. There is a bonus but this will depend on agent performance rather than personal achievement. They sold it to me as it would look FANTASTIC on my CV.
Can they do this? I have the email showing the original email. I am the only person in a postition to accept this job. I could just carry on doing the agent job as the bonus is guarenteed along with cash incentives, portential earnings are up to £27k as an agent.
HELP!!!

They can make any offer they want. The advertisement isn't legally binding - the offer they have made you is all that matters. If you aren't happy with the offer you either renegotiate it or you turn it down.0

Is this just a different job with your current employer, or are you applying for a job with a new employer?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

This happened to a friend of mine a while back. She was offered a managerial role after going through the interview process. These roles carry a £7-10k salary uplift compared to her level. They offered her no salary raise on the basis she didn't have management experience at that level. She had sort of expected not to get the full whack, but expected something. She tried to negotiate, they said no so she turned the role down. Management weren't happy, offered her something like £500 and she still turned down. Why, she put it, would she take a role with more work, less perks and more stress for no more money? Sure, it'd look good on her cv but she'd lose out so many other ways.
Further down the line she has been given a role in the level above, with a more decent pay rise.Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind0 -
This is personally, what I think I would do.....
I would tell them that I would accept the role at the original salary offered in the advert. Be nice about it, just tell them you can't afford to take a potential drop.
My reasoning being, I wouldn't want to go in to that role with then thinking that they can treat you like that, otherwise is will more than likely continue.
You may have been the only person that applied for the job but that didn't mean that they had to offer it to you. If they didn't think you were capable of doing the job then they wouldn't have offered it to you, and if they think you are capable of doing the job, then they should pay you advertised salary.
But, again, that's just my view.......0 -
If you are doing the job at "agent wage", they are trying to save a whack of money by missing the middle-man out. They may also be opening themselves up to breach of contract too. Nevertheless, negotiate and see the advert rate as the minimum you will take!0

Perhaps be prepared to negiotiate - perhaps take £23k but review in 6months for extra or something. I understand though that as an agent you have scope for £27k inc bonus etc (but nearly £29k if you get full wage offered in the management post?).
I suspect they just want to formalise it and are trying it on. If you are doing the role anyway, then you can do your CV to show the experience you have gained. It doesn't matter if you are technically an agent, so they can't use that against you.0 -
On your CV you'd just need to put Acting Manager xxx0

Throw that back at them, it's is allready on my CV, I have been doing the job for 4 months, are you going to pay me a fare rate for the job or are you going to have to look for someone else?
The idiots should have just promoted you.
Presumably you know the agent team and how good they are so how acheavable the bonus is, any slackers in the team get them replaced before accepting.0 -

woooo thanks for all the replies!!
Lots to take on board. I went back to the manager offering the job and explained regarding the pay drop.....60 mins later he is back with £2k increase, bonus at 20% and incentives dependant upon work and SLA. So although its not the 24k...its now £23k bonus and incentive.....
What I forgot to mention is the other option is presently redundancy in September, we are presently in the consultancy period, it could be the agent job carries on but will eventually become redundant. The manager job is fairly secure......So anyway I have accepted:o
