Have recently purchased some thermal backed curtains and having spent ages sniffing around to find where the smell in the bedroom is coming from I have narrowed it down to my new curtains.
I can only describe it as a stale biscuit smell - most unpleasant.
Has anyone experienced the same or similar and more importantly any ideas how to get rid of it?

Febreze? (Or Febreeze? or however you spell itor a no-name equivalent). I used it on a chest of drawers which used to be my gran's I was pregnant at the time so my nose was very sensitive to smell (nobody else could smell anything), but it did get rid of the smell.

Do you still have washing lables for them? If yes follow that and wash in machine, hang on line to dry and hopefully they will smell of that ozone just washed smell. My Male cat has long fur and he smells just like that. I can often be found sniffing him. Strange I know, but it is such a fresh just washed smell.0 -

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I was wondering whether this was something to do with the thermal backing on the curtains. I have read that when the sun gets on the backing it reacts with the material and emits this smell.
The have only been up a couple of weeks so it isn't a case of their getting smelly from anything else!
Just wondered if anyone who had these type of curtains had experienced the same.
If it is a case of some kind of reaction then I shall ditch then as it is overpowering despite the lack of much sun. (not very moneysaving I know!)0 -
Why not try washing them to see if that helps ? we have a thread on washing curtains which may help
let us know how you go and we will merge this later

Thermal backing can have a smell depending on which sort used. The odour eliminators should do the trick rather than washing. Some thermal backings are not good for washing.Truth always poses doubts & questions.
