Tax for temporary workers

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have been working for various temp agencies for the last couple of years since I left uni. The first agency I worked for (Reed) had an agreement with the government that gave us some tax back every week to cover travel to and from work and I seem to remember food being mentioned. I believe Manpower lets you do this also. I ended up saving about £15 a week.
Since I left Reed I have worked for 2 or 3 independent privately owned agencies as a temp but do not recieve this benefit any more. Does anyone know whether I can still claim this or get some kind of rebate? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a "subsistence allowance" but it is for meals, not for travel and is up to £20 a day AFAIR.
Hardly any agency give this to normal workers. Its usually reserved for HGV drivers having a night out in the lorry.0 -
If you are a temporary worker, and pay Tax via PAYE, then dont do thios any more. Consider working as an 'employee' of an umbrella company i.e. an employee of a LTD company to take advantage of tax savings you can make, legally.
You may be also able to claim travel and subsistence expenses. Website is https://www.brookson.co.uk
I am a member of this. As long as you fulfill the IR working guidleines you should be okay, and see you salary increase around 15-20% each week!
PM if you want more info. (i am a member of brookson.co.uk, but there are other umbrella companies, but they are one of the largest in the UK. If you use me reference no. as a referral i will share 1/2 of any fees saved back with you).0
