  • Negotiate on credit cards? Yeah right.

Fact is op isnt getting a 0% or mainstream card with a default.

What do you think this is? The 2000s?

I wouldn't worry too much about the default, from reading these pages over the past few months I can't understand why there is such drama when anyone mentions it.

My credit was shocking! Really low! Defaults, CCJs and lots of credit paying the minimum - recently the CCJ has dropped off and all bar 3 defaults have too (2 x Santander and 1 x Next).

C/C have been cleared and my credit file is still showing 300ish on Equifax and Fair on Experian however I've not struggled to get a 0% C/C nor a loan with my bank.

There's no exact science nor logic as to why a lender will provide you with credit I think. I have a Capital One card which I've always used to pay the minimum at around 95% of its balance. Around a month ago I cleared the card, only £1200, and today I receive a letter to say my limit has been increased to £4000. Funny how I asked for a increased a few months back and was flat refused .

I'm surprised your bank hasn't helped though, how is your account run? Any savings to show you could cover it?

A defaiult tells the bank that you are unable/unwilling to honour a agreement to pay back what you said you would pay...
The banks hate them and having one on your record limits your choice of lenders very much....and your attitude to debt would cause me sleepless nights and days...:o
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

  • Yeah high and mighty because I chose to be and still am financially responsible? While you chose to amass defaults and ccjs?

Doesnt like what he's hearing so goes on a rant about his bank balance like anyone cares. I could also go on about how I have a HEALTHIER balance cos I spent the last 6 years saving and not defaulting or paying debts so I sleep tighter?

The attitude in this site stinks, very high and mighty.

There was no high and mighty in the reply from geoffky.

Cheshire, I think your colon must be clenched...calm down :)

Well my defaults originated from a mistake with Santander's switching service which I've just had them successfully removed. So it doesn't show that one is unable nor willing to pay does it? Nor does it limit ones ability to get a good deal, in some circumstances yes, but in my case no. My bank was more than happy to offer me a 10k car loan at 9% but I decided against it and opted for a company car.

The CCj was my fault but was over 6yrs ago now and my attitude and bank balance has changed! Debt free and taking responsible steps to improve my credit such as putting my company expenses on a 0% card for example.

Very healthy bank balance now so I'd sleep tight if I was you
