Hi Peep
Trying to update bits and pieces in our home over the next few months for as cheap as possible (so apologies in advance for the threads i will be starting )
Does anyone have any recommendations on where we could get wood for a kitchen worktop and where would be best to buy a belfast sink?
I have seen some worktops in Ikea, which are quite nice and have checked with some UK suppliers but it seems the delivery is extortionate!
Thanks in advance for suggestions (belfast based)

I have IKEA's oak worktops and find them excellent. They were also by far the cheapest price for wooden worktops I could find! They also do a couple of white enamel sinks which I settled on as an alternative to a Belfast (easier to source, cheaper and more practical as I went for the double one). Having a double sink means one side can be used for draining, keeping the area around the worktop drier and free from mould. It looks almost as nice as a Belfast (I think anyway!) and they have a single option too.

I would recommend a Liberon oil for keeping any wooden worktop protected.
Good luck in your search0 -
have been looking at Ikea- think i will go over tomorrow and see what they look like:)0

I know this may sound odd but the garden centre just off the Templepatrick round about (Colmans garden centre)....has loads and loads of brand new Belfast sinks and all sorts of sizes. All around £20. I know nothing about fitting a kitchen but might be worth a look at.:beer:0

As a furniture maker, the only wood I would recommend for around sink areas would be Iroko, as most other woods like Oak, Beech etc. will turn black and require a lot of maintenance and re oiling regurlarly.0

I had a solid Oak worktop, never again, turned black & unsightly
Laminate cheaper, hygenic & better0
