Can we leave benefits out of this please.....OP knew the thread would come to this...No I don't have 6 kids. I'd love 6 kids, but I know that I can't afford it, so I stopped at the 2 I could 'afford' while wishing I could have had more.
We're not having a holiday this year. I don't have nice jewellery or anything like that. What I do have is a university education and I have worked (hard) for 14 years. Yet I earn less in salary than you get in benefits. I have less disposable income than you (more of a shortage than an extra 4 kids could account for).
Surely you can see why people can be annoyed at this?!?! I'm not saying you're claiming more than you're entitled to, but there are those of us who choose to work even though we're worse off as a result, and who support others through their taxes. There IS something wrong in that, so don't have a pop at me. I was simply pointing out that your disposable income after working would not be dissimilar to many other people and £45k on benefits is very very very unfair on others.
None of us know the OP's original circumstances when the 6 children were thought of. Maybe they could afford it then and now they can't.
Benefits pay enough to survive and the OP is finding it difficult. Fair enough.
FYI benefits pay an extra £64.99 per child per week (after the first which gets £82.39) in total of extra child tax credits and child benefit. Yes it adds up to over £2,000 a month plus housing benefit. Other threads tell me that isn't enough to support a child and CSA payments make up the difference and some DFW's tell me that's a huge amount. I can never figure it out.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Sorry for my harsh previous post about benefits but, as some have mentioned, it's a bitter pill to swallow. I think the welfare system is wonderful ,I needed it years ago but we all have choices, mine was to get an education. The downside to having an education and a career is that, as a couple , we can't afford more children yet those without a job can have as many as they wish and 'earn' more than I do.
Back on topic. I'm sorry that you are in hardship with debts, I'm sure 6 children are expensive. I'm also sorry that your partner left you. Was he working?
EBay items you don't need and cut costs to your outgoings. I'm still astounded that you can't manage on your income and have incurred 10k of debt.
Please don't think you're a crap worthless loser, you're not. You are a worthwhile person simply caught up in a sticky situation. It's only money, you'll find a solution.0
