Black Horse (F&F Help)

Hi All
Back at the start of June we sent a letter to Black Horse with a settlement offer on. They replied with an acceptance letter. Great we thought.
So, the father-in-law comes to the house to pay it for us and my husband phones up Black Horse (the account was for an old joint loan).
After about 20 minutes he comes back in fuming. Apparantly, between Black Horse sending us a settlement acceptance and us phoning to pay said figure, some bright spark had sold our account to a DCA! My husband was so angry and they said to him it was their mistake if they sent out an acceptance letter they had to honour it so they needed to get the account back and could we phone up next week.
We have since done this and heard absolutely nothing about the account being settled/closed etc. So about 2 weeks ago I sent a letter to them with a SAE saying can they write to me and tell me the account was all settled as we had had so much bother over it.
My husband checked his equifax report last week, and the Black Horse loan is showing up as all payments red etc and nothing is flagged as a partial settlement nothing. This seems unusual to me as all the other creditors paid off around this time have entered information. Black horse has not updated the file since May 2012.
What is our next step from here? I'm pretty sure they will have probably defaulted us because we only partially settled. But surely they need to update this information?
