Sunbeds and fake tan....

  • Hi,

You would be able to develop a base tan over two weeks on a sunbed, but if you choose to use them, you must usea high spf in outdoor sunlight, it'sgot to be one or the other

A responsible tanning establishment will give you a free consultation to establish yourskin type and tanning history in order to adviseappropriate session length. The Tanning Shop is a chain and offers this free. They also have a very informative website.

Whilst there is a lot of adverse media aboutuv exposure, we as humans need it, for vitamin d production for example. Two key points,1. Sunbed shops are now regulated by the eu in that lamps are 0.3 compliant, ie nostronger than the mediterranean midday sun. 2. Look at skin cancer rates in the southern hemisphere where uv exposure is much greater than in the uk. We have to look verycarefully at how uv exposure is reportedas the same paperwill say one day thatuv exposure is the worst evil in theworld and the next day the will report the increase in rickets due to kids not getting enough sun!

I tried sunbeds when I was younger to help with my acne and never changed colour or made any difference to my acne. In the sun if I don't use sun cream I burn and go back white. I've seen some horrific photos of brides who look like they've been tangoed because of spray tans so for me I will be my natural pale self.

I'm naturally quite pale, fair hair, and find it difficult to catch the sun unfortunately! I'm just hoping for a bit of sunshine to give me a little glow before the wedding, if not I'm going as a ghost lol. Don't want to sunned and don't want to be an orange so white it is!!!

Why don't you look after your skin, exfoliating & moisturising for the next 3 weeks and instead of a spray tan, just apply something like Dove which won't streak, isn't orange and you can do it yourself with a friend to do your back. Your skin will be glowing, and you won't do any long term damage.

I've used sun beds before on and off, and my whole skin tone changes, gets dry leathery and I looked old. I was only using them for 3 mins 2 times a week and was 25.

I'm another one who is against sunbeds. I just think they're too dangerous. I agree with cathy2702 and would suggest using one of the moisturisers with slight colour in them, they build up the colour slowly.

I'm definitely staying pale. I never tan in the sun so a fake tan would look strange on me!
  • I'm not getting a spray tan for the wedding after I got one when I was my sister's bridesmaid a few years ago - even though the tan wasn't bad I think I look really orange and hate the pictures - so I think I'd rather just stay pale. I'd never go on sunbeds, to me it isn't worth the risk.

OP, how would you feel about a wash-off tan? Rimmel's is quite good and not too expensive and you can buy it in various different skin tones.

I'm really pale (practically blue) and I have had the elemis tan in the past which isn't a spray tan as I don't trust them!! You go and get the full body massage and exfoliation and then they massage the tan in to you - it's lovely, almost like getting a full body massage at the same time... And the colour isn't as brown/orange as others, it's quite light - and looks really natural. I wouldn't risk the sunbeds, in case you burn...

I had my tan done 2 days before my wedding in the evening and it was a lovely way to relax.

I used holiday skin coming up to my wedding. I am very pale and burn easily. The good thing with the dove/jhonsons stuff is you can stop if it gets too dark, or build it up, it doesn't streak and it leaves your skin well moisturised too.

I have also tried the clinique gradual tanner but found it too dark.
