debt help for soon to be mature student

I am 25 and have been working full time since leaving school. In this time i have run up a bit of debt when i was 21, which is beng paid back to debt collection agencies, The grand figure comes to around £6000 to various different debt colletion agencies. I am currently paying about £120 back each month.
The thing is that i am about to become a student, having been excepted on a social work degree course.
I will not be able to pay back the debt to the various debt collection companies, obviously any part time job, the money will go towards my food.
Does anyone know if debt can be frozen for 3 years, Obviously i wouldn't want it to get to county court judgemnets, what are my options?
Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Unfortunately you are very unlikely to get companies to freeze debts for that length of time. Are there any grants available to you? When will you be starting this course, can you knuckle down and pay off any of these debts between now and then? You may be entitled to student loans that may be an option for cheaper debt, although this may not be an ideal option, but consolidation of these debts would mean you wouldn't have to pay any of them back until you graduate and earn a certain level. How are you planning on paying your living costs, its not just food you need to consider?
Best of luck with your course, my SIL is due to graduate in July from her DipSW and although it has been very heavy going she has enjoyed it immensley and gained alot from it.0 -
Welshlassie, yes i get a student loan, but that is meant for my rent per year and won't include bills, i also get a bursary but that is used to pay for my tuition fees, i have to have a part time job just to pay for my food and any other bits and pieces, so loan and bursary can not even stretch to paying off debts.0

The other option is to post your full current Statement of Affairs (see "First Time Poster" thread) and we can try to identify areas where you can cut back so you are able find some extra money to pay these debts off. You don't say when you will be starting your course? Do you have any time between now and then to generate some extra income to help pay them off, eg Ebay, Mystery Shopping etc.0
