Thanks to those who responded about Bicarb earlier - I made my first trip to Wilkinson as a result - what a place - I bought loads of fab stuff including Stardrops which I'm going to try.
But one of the things I've seen on the posts is reference to using Ammonia to clean - yet when I asked in Wilkinson's today they told me that it was a banned substance and that it couldn't be bought - is that true? If not any ideas as to where I can buy it from?

I think you can buy it at some Boots stores.
Never Mix ammonia with bleach - you get a poisonous gas - not joking!!!"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
Its quite nasty stuff, personally I cant see any benefit of using it over another cleaning fluid.
Taken from Wikipedia as a guide of precautions to take if you decide to buy some:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Household use
Solutions of ammonia (5–10% by weight) are used as household cleaners, particularly for glass. These solutions are irritating to the eyes and mucous membranes (respiratory and digestive tracts), and to a lesser extent the skin. They should never be mixed with chlorine-containing products or strong oxidants, for example household bleach, as a variety of toxic and carcinogenic compounds are formed (e.g., chloramine, hydrazine, and chlorine gas).
Even in low concentrations it will still sink so who knows why you'd want to use it anyway!0 -
Starclen is stardrops mixed with ammonia if that helps? It can generally be found in home bargains, although apparently if you're in the South it's rather hard to find!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0
Careful with Starclens. I used it to clean my living room floor and suddenly next door's tom cat who'd been coming in for years with no trouble started spraying all over the place. Once very expensive rug clean, bicarb and jetwash (yes really) later the smell was gone but a vet advised me not to use any ammonia based product as it will attract cats to mark their territory.:eek: You have been warned.0
