So are you saying that it would be tax evasion, but as long as you had nothing in writing then nobody would be able to prove it, so you'd get away with it?

The HMRC could determine the tax treatment in the absence of a written agreement. If the matter came to light at a later date.

After 6 years has elapsed there's no right of appeal against a tax assessment.

So always have proper documentation drawn up. Otherwise the unintended consequences could be expensive to rectify.

I managed to start a family for the price of a few vodka redbulls. Think you may be may be overestimating.

Chewy, how would you square the gift idea with the £700 monthly payments that begin when the dad gives the OP the money/house and end when the OP gives the dad the £45k 8 years later?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

i don't think you can - which is why i said it wouldn't work if his dad needs the monthly repayments to be made, rather than just receive a lump sum at some point in the future.
