Bipolar and Debt

Hi. Im new here. Really need some advice. Before i was diagnosed with bipolar, i opened 11 catalogue accounts in my then partners name. I ended up spending almost £10000 in just a couple of months. At the time i didnt feel like i was doing anything wrong. When the delivery mancame,it felt likechristmasday. When he didnt turn up, i would get really upset which would make me order more stuff. I hid it for a while but gradually, my partner found out about each one.
He left a few months later because of that and also because of my mood swings. When he left, he took on the debt because i have the children. 8 months later i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, after no diagnosis for years. It is now 6 months later and my meds are starting work and i am now beginning to feel "normal".
Today, my ex has told me that he cant get a place to rent due to these debts that i caused. My question is, is there anyway these debts can be changed to my name or written off due to mental health illness? I know it is a lot to ask but really need the help. Thank you

no and no, unless you pay using your credit cardDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I suppose the debts could be transferred to your name - at the price of admitting to fraud.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Unfortunately not hun - you can ask your ex to contact the catalogue companies, but he'll have to say you used the accounts without his permission and then you'd be basically accused of fraud. If you set up arrangements to pay, they will register on his account. As someone who ruined mine and my husband's credit records whilst manic prior to being diagnosed with bipolar, I sympathise, but you've got some difficult decisions ahead and it's not going to be easy for you or your ex.0

I haven't got anything especially useful to add re the debts, but I just wanted to say as someone with MH issues myself, well done on getting help, and congrats on things improving xxOn the up
