royal london endowment policy

Has anyone had any dealings with Royal London and their endowment policy payouts. Perhaps I am being unreasonable but after paying in £10k
over 16 years and receiving under £14k in return I was a little disappointed.
It was not to settle a mortgage and RL have written to me explaining about the q & a's from their sales agent etc etc and that their were no gauarantees and returns are lower etc but as we all know sales agents give loads of examples all of which predict much higher returns and of course I did not keep their handwritten notes...
Any thoughts from members ....
