No it hasn't.
"No stamp duty on zero-emission houses (up to £500,000), and grants of up to £4,000 for pensioners who insulate their homes"
Somewhat of a cop-out. Zero emission? thats going to apply to about ...hmm... 0.002% of homeowners? Less? If we're going down the green route with stamp duty surely a sliding scale of emissions-to-tax ratio might be a more effective way to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprints.0 -
I was listening to the budget up untill 30 mins ago and at that time stamp duty had not been mentioned.0

Unless you live in a mud hut.... no.
I have no idea what a "zero emmision home" is!0 -

I thought it was also a cop out, as far as i know there are no zero-emissions houses where I live. i think 0.02% of homeowner is probably very generous.0 -
Right at the end of the budget report (page 283) it says:
"Receipts from stamp duties in 2006-07 have been revised up by £0.6 billion since the 2006 Pre-Budget Report, primarily because of higher receipts from stamp duty land tax. Receipts have benefited from the strength of the housing market in 2006-07. Growth in stamp duty land tax is likely to slow in 2007-08 with house price inflation likely to moderate during the year. In addition, the forecast assumes that the number of property transactions will
stabilise in 2007-08. "
Its a big chunk of money, it helps offset the headline-grabbing income tax 'cut'... :rolleyes:0 -

Yeah I thought that after I put it. Even these spanking new carbon controlled eco-housing projects produce minor emissions. Its like having a budget saying you don't have to pay income tax if you don't work and making out like thats some amazing benefit. Schmuck.0 -
There is no such thing as a zero-emmission home!
what's he gonna do next? Tax our bodily emmisions!
****Deedee73 sulks that her minor wind problem may end up costing her money, and not, as she imagined, make her famous****** LOLSig ah Sig Ahhh0 -

bit like when he introduced the new Vehicle Excise Duty bands with a headline grabbing £0 per year car tax....there's only two types of car in that band (Honda Insight petrol electric hybrid and the Smart car diesel)
:rolleyes:0
