virgin winebank

Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong place but it doesnt seem to fit anywhere else.

After signing up for Virgin Broadband I received a £20 off virgin wines coupon, I registered on virginwines but did not use the voucher as the wines were all too expensive for me.

A week later I received an E-mail :
Dear ken

A BET YOU CAN'T LOSE

I would like to bet you 6 bottles of wine, worth almost £42, that Virgin Wines is the right wine company for you. If that interests you then keep reading...

IS THERE A CATCH?

Now, before you get all suspicious, let me make something crystal clear.

There is no requirement for you to buy any wine at all. Ever. If you don't like the free wines, you can simply tell us and that is the end of it.

All we ask of you is that you pay £5.99 to cover our delivery costs, and that you try our WineBank (see more about this below).

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

You went to all the trouble to come to our website and register. So you must be interested in wine, which is great. But you did not buy anything. So not a good outcome - for you or for us.

I understand that it takes a bit of a leap of faith to hand over £60 or more on a case of wines that you have never tried. How do you know if they'll be any good? How do you know they'll be delivered?

Well rather than waste your time and our breath by trying to convince you, I thought I would just demonstrate the point, by giving you an offer with no downside.

Obviously, we are hoping that by dishing out some free wine, we are going to get some really good customers. Which is why this offer is conditional upon you trying our Wines and our WineBank.

WHAT IS THIS WINEBANK?

Just like a normal bank, but a lot more fun!
• Every month, you invest £20 into your WineBank account
• Every quarter, we pay £20 into your account. We call this WineInterest
You can spend your money to buy the wines you want to buy, whenever you want to buy them.

There is no downside
You can have your money back any time you like
• We keep your money in a separate trust account so it is completely safe
• There is no obligation or tie in whatsoever. You and your money can leave whenever you like
• You can chose from hundreds of wines and make up your own selections, pick one of our pre-mixed cases, or call one of our Personal Wine Advisors for some professional recommendations
What that means is that you have £80 in your account - but it has only cost you £60. Which feels a bit like finding a £20 note down the back of the sofa.

There was a link included and I replied "yes please", later that day I received another link which took me to virginwines and there was £40 in my account allowing me to buy 6 bottles of nice stuff for the cost of P+P (£5.99)

I'm looking forward to my free £20 every 3 mnths, or have I been conned ?

I'll let you all know if the wine arrives !!

Anyone else know of this ?

No it feels like I have lost £60
    GONE ENGLAND
  • My "Free" wine arrived, very nice it is as well, bottles range from £4.99 to £8.95 value so it was worth the £5.99 postage.
Now I've logged back into virgin wines site and removed my debit card as i've decided not to lend them my money after all :)
