What would you think/do?

I'm interested to hear other people's opinions on this one. What would you think if your boss said to you 'You're good, you're really good, you're just not as good as T (colleague's name)?

I think I'd say "Can you tell me how T is performing / what behaviours T is displaying that I could use to make my own performance better?"

It would seem obvious to ask in what way is xx performing better than I am and what can I do to improve my performance. Can I undergo training in areas where my performance is weaker.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. The OP's question was about a manager/superior's opinion. In that position, even if I disagreed with that opinion, I think I'd rather counter it with something positive (e.g. "please tell me how I can also achieve that level of performance") rather than "I don't agree, you're not correct". Unless I could counter with *specific* performance targets - e.g. I sold 100 widgets, where T only sold 50 widgets.

I'd ask what T was good at :rotfl:

I'd be a little miffed at not being thought of as the best, I'd want to change that and I'd observe T to see what they do and how I could learn from there actions. If we got on well I'd maybe shadow T and ask for their help/training.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
