My eldest 2 (10 & 8)will be going to a council run playscheme which is totally free for 4 weeks. They take them swimming, play football, dodge ball, tennis, rounders, hockey etc. Its from 9am - 3pm & they take a packed lunch. They can come home for the lunch hour but I can alo pay £1 per child to stya there. They've begged to go so I have no problem with taking them (its in the village anyhow). I'll have DS whom is 4 will stay with me & he's easily pleased. Thankfully cos we're moving house over the holidays so he can help pack!

Otherwise it would be the beach, beach.......beeach and beach! If it was raining I'd bake & play the Wii!

wow pinkmami, that sounds brilliant!!! I will have to ask my local council if they offer anything similar for my 2!

Also- check out 'Primary Times' magazine- just click on this link http://www.primarytimes.net/home.php and then click on 'whats on in your region'. It comes up with loads of ideas.

-The National Trust are not charging for children during August (check out their 50 things to do before you are 11 3/4'.

I've got a 9yo and a 12yo too and whilst the younger one can still be entertained with trips to the park and walks in the woods, it is becoming harder with the 12yo - though his advantage is I don't have to take him with me everywhere I go and he can go out and call for friends.

My local council offers a 'summer passport' where you can nominate 1 council run swimming pool and swim unlimited all summer for £15, or if you want the big leisure centre with the fun pool, it's either £30 to swim or ice-skate or £40 for both. That and a crash lesson in how to catch inter-connecting buses from 1 side of town to another, in case I'm not around to play taxi driver will I hope keep DS occupied.

I also have a book of vouchers I bought earlier this year which offers discounts off many things in my town, like a free fishing session and discounted ten pin bowling, so will be using them up too.

Oh, and if you are on facebook, its worth 'liking' your local attractions, as sometimes they do special deals that are only available for those who 'like' their page.

The Olympic Road Cycle Racing is free to watch (apart from the bit on Box Hill) with most of the route accessible by train from London Waterloo.

All of them start and finish at the Mall which will be packed but should be plenty of quieter places en route.
