Interview dress tip

Bethanie Lunn, author of the Modern Girl's Guide to Fabulousness, says wearing boots at a job interview creates a good impression and shows that you mean business.

She's obviously meaning for women interviewees. I don't think a man turning up in stiletto knee high boots will get the job. :rotfl:

Is that some new crazy fashion term I don't know about?

I think she may have a point though. Men quite often turn up in suits and shiny shoes even for low paid jobs, while women sometimes turn up in a smart casual top, trousers and ballet style shoes so they are putting themselves at a disadvantage.

I'm assuming boots in this instance is referring to smart leather boots not Ugg boots or Wellington boots! :D

    Wow oops a typo

I always go to interviews in a suit and new shoes. Never never ever would I wear flat shoes and do not own any.

Perhaps there is an indication of the scope of validity of the advice in the title of the book? Just guessing.

I cant wear shoes with any sort of heel for medical reasons so I have always worn flat shoes to interview.

Last two jobs I have been interviewed for I have got, current one I have been in for four years. Flat shoes can be quite smart!

I agree that ballet style isn't really business-like enough for a 'smart' interview. For me, it's the ridiculously thin sole which makes the difference, and they should look as if they'll stay on your feet if you have walk rapidly from one side of the office to the other.

I have one pair which I'd say were almost ballet style, they do have a strap but it's only poppered on, and the straps keep popping off! They are kept for very special occasions when I won't have to walk any distance or at speed in them.

Plus they're turquoise. With pink trim. Not really business smart.

I agree, and I think I'd take from the 'fabulousness' advice that your shoes should look as if you mean business. The more solid the better, very clean and well polished!

(Been watching The Hotel Inspector tonight, and kept cringing at the son's shoes in the bit when he was trying to look smart - he was wearing a business suit but seemed to have black trainers with white soles!!!)

Depending on the industry that could be a bad thing. Working in accounts in a Factory/manufacturing related industry any woman who wears heels to interviews does get noticed - for the wrong reasons! Smart, flat, sensible shoes are necessary for safety around here.
