If you're a business traveller, your ideal notebook will be lightweight, durable and reliable, standing up to the rigours of the road, delivering the productivity you need and looking stylish into the bargain. Sony's new G11-Series VAIOs aim to fulfill this brief — and you have the chance to win one courtesy of Sony and ZDNet UK!
The 27.7cm by 21.5cm by 2.35-2.55cm VAIO G11 has a 12.1in. XGA-resolution screen and weighs 1.13kg. The power supply, often an inconvenience in a travel bag or briefcase, is compact and weighs just 170g. Carbon fibre laminate in the casing and the lid provide protection from drops from up to 90cm (with the system powered down), while motion detection technology locks down the hard drive heads to protect your data in the event of a mishap. Further security is provided by a fingerprint sensor and a built-in Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip.
The CPU at the heart of the G11 is an Intel Ultra Low Voltage Core Solo U1500 running at 1.33GHz, with 1GB of RAM. Graphics are integrated in the Intel 945GMS chipset, and the operating system is Windows Vista Business. Connectivity comes in the form of 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN and wired Gigabit Ethernet for super-fast network connections. For storage, you get a 100GB hard drive and an integrated multi-format DVD ± RW/RAM drive — the latter being a relatively rare feature on such a lightweight ultraportable notebook.
And the battery life? Sony claims up to nine hours, which is enough to power the business traveller through a full working day.
Question: How high a drop can the VAIO G11 withstand?
Answer: 90cm
Complete the following tie-breaker in no more than 12 words:
Sony's VAIO G11 is the notebook for me because...
Good Luck
