Why does everyone want to be an accountant?

Unfortunately in times of crisis huge organisations look to their "systems" to improve as if that will generate more turnover or profit from products, processes or services that are out of date. They then set up a raft of exercises that entail change management and as the HR team aren't really sure what that looks like and it appears to be a way of making/saving money, they recruit change managers.
These posts are then thinly veiled accountancy and ICT jobs, but at least they have a new title.
Then the suppliers/customers of such companies jump on the bandwagon and recruit similarly.
We now have an artificially high demand for finance and ICT professionals that will disappear like snow off a dyke come the first glimmer of an upturn in the economy.0 -

Unfortunatley the same can be said of a number of jobs/professions.
I was reading the other day that as there is no restriction on the nuber of students taking LPC courses, there are thousands of people each year who pass the courses but are unable to find jobs in law.
The same happened a few years ago with Physiotherapists - there was a massive recruitment drive in Universities and there just were not the number of jobs available when they graduated.0 -
I'm sure I read, recently, that there are currently more trainee accountants than trainee nurses, teachers and engineers put together.
It doesn't bode well for future employment prospects.0 -
Probably because every business needs an accountant. Not many trades can say every business needs their services0
