HMRC are quite happy for people to 'round down' any income figures to the nearest £, and round up any tax deducted to the nearest £, when submitting a tax return. Does this 'reek' of anything?

Majority of payrolls are now generated by using computer software. So correct payment of the net amount due consistantly shouldn't be an issue

    Thanks Holly,

I was not saying this is 100% legitimate and it will fly through..

But, I cannot understand the motivation to discredit my opinion or the OP's position when Santander is the issue.

They had the payslips on day 1 I would suggest, so to wait weeks request more information and then decline on the payslip issue is shoddy - dodgy or not...

Dave, we all know Abbey at the moment are picky, and "incorrect" payslips (i.e. payslips differing to what is actually paid) to anyone who knows Abbey currently would ring alarm bells.

Agree, if this is the only issue, to take weeks to decline is not on, but we do not know what the broker involved was doing, whether they were delaying things/trying to resolve themselves.

Holly, Abbey do not routinely ask for p60's, from the limited info given they would normally only ask for the latest payslip, and bank statement, possibly the broker involved could have argued the case with a p60? Your hubby's situation is different, presumably his payslips are still accurate to bank statements despite depending on days worked?

I side with Dave H on this, the P60 should be able to clearly document and support the annual income that has been declared on the application. 3mths payslips are usually to determine if the annual income delcared is standard renumeration, or actually includes ad hoc bonuses etc .... whilst of course verifing other areas. Indeed I did think that the standard submission was P60 and lastest 3 mths payslips .. so can't see the issue if this is genuinely the sole reason for the decline, and the applicant gave an explanation that can be verified by the employers accountant.
I would be fairly sure it will be the last of a line of information that, while not necessarily wrong, isn't specifically right.
To paint a picture of how ridiculous this decline and the arguements are - is that my Hubbys company ...

    :rotfl:Yes ... poor, poor soul ... :D:p .... !!!

Wh0. gosh I am surprised at the old Abbey re P60s, and yes you are spot on, my hubbys bank statements and salary credits, did of course mirror the amounts in the respective payslips - so if requested there wouldn't have been an issue.

The delay in actual decline of this, well if the true issue is the payslips, it is woefully inept of them, and could have been down to an oversight in the initial packaging stage, before it went over to the UWs for offer - at which point it was spotted and queried/rejected.

I have a sneaky feeling, that there may be more to this than meets the eye ....

In the past mortgage applications have been submitted supported by forged bank statements and payslips.

Yes I did read over them ..... there;s nothing dodgy in them, save how the 2nd applicants employer administers employees salaries - which as already stated is not tax evasion on the employees part (as the rounding is paid at yr end and will be duly taxed), and although unusual, not illegal from the employers point of view.

Unless I've missed something, and there is a suggestion of DIY documents being the issue ?

However as I say, just a feeling I have from the amount of on going requests for additional info by the lender, throught the application process through to decline .... but I may be wrong.

Added info 13.7.12 - Ah FB other threads not posts (thought I was going mad !), I haven't had a chance to read them yet ...

    Hi everyone,

Firstly thank you for all the replies. I do understand that it can look fraudulent but I still maintain that common sense would suggest someone frauding would take extra care to make sure the fake payslip would match the amounts going in the account. Yet I can't see why else they'd pick at it. Maybe, as some of you suggest, they're being picky, and they only want to give it to X number of applicants so they want to give it to the ons with 0% oddities. I guess you can't blame them for that. I just wish they'd done it in 2 weeks not 6!

So we await a decision on Nationwide. We haven't provided any payslips for my girlfriend (they erm, got shredded....somehow....) and the mortgage brokers are going to put them under pressure to speed it through. I just hope we get a decision before they do the valuation. Because if we get rejected, we'll lose the £290 valuation fee AND the £99 booking fee!

I'll keep you all updated. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Thanks again!

Tell your broker to advise NWide not to go to survey until you have an offer in principal - that way if it all goes pete tong, you haven't lost the survey fee.

    Destroying payslips was foolish

    Hope this helps

If you are now under pressure time wise I certainly would not be using Nationwide at the moment (plenty of threads to this effect)

With regards your girl friends income do you not need it for the mortgage? As conveniently "losing" the payslips could raise suspicions again.
