Home highlights/bleaching

I have really short hair (think Judi Dench) but my hairdresser has quoted £90 for highlights.
At that price, I'd like to have a go myself but don't know anything about the brands to use or techniques/kit required.
Any advice would be welcomed.

I've had good results with both Jerome Russell and Wella home highlighting kits.
You do need someone to help you though ie pulling through and applying the bleach...specially at the back. And remember less is more.

aliadds, just wanted to say that I used the Jerome Russell highlight kit (£6.odd at Boots) at the weekend.
My husband helped -- bless him -- and the results are really very good.
You honestly can't tell that it wasn't done at a salon. I am truly thrilled with the result and the £83 saved!!0
