Job Centre Question

I am a stay at home mum to my 2 year old son. It has got to the point now where I need to go back to work to help with the houses income.
My husband works shifts : 6-2 one week and 2-10 the next but as he is a manager he can be needed to start as much as 4 hours before or work 4 hours after.
I would like to be helped by the job centre but am worried that they would expect me to take jobs that are completely unsuitable.
Would they be understanding or do they not give a rats bum????

If you sign on at the jobcentre then you are looking for work and that work will be any work even if you think that particular role that they send you for is unsuitable. Sorry but that's the way it is these days. I have to apply for anything and everything that I can do and even sometimes jobs that I have no experience in but could possibly do due to having transferrable skills.0

If you aren't claiming a benefit no-one would be able to advise you at the jobcentre. There's barely enough staff to deal with those on JSA. Your best bet is to ask for an appointment with a National Careers Service adviser who generally work from the jobcentres then at least you would get advice on improving your CV etc.0

So they only help people on benefits??? Nice!!! Thanks for the advice, I will look into that

You can still use the jobcentre to search for jobs, you don't have to be signing to get their service.0

Most areas have job clubs in community centre type places which you could get help from so I would ring and ask where the nearest one is.0

Yes anyone can come in and use the jobpoints but not see an adviser.
There are also the phones you can use to apply for vacancies too, OP there are many charitable organisations that will help you prepare a CV, best bet is to look in you local library and such places, or even ask at the jobcentre as I know at my local one they have names of organisations to help you with such things.0 -
Also, since you obviously have access to a computer, why go out at all? Not suggesting that you hide in the house all day by the way, but these days almost all job-searching can be done from the comfort of your computer - about the only thing you will miss out on are cards in the window of the local shops! The truth is that if someone wants a job, then they do all the hard work of getting it themselves, on benefits or not.0

When I stopped receiving benefit I wasn't welcome at the Job Centre. I asked if I could still use it to find a job and they said "no". But when I thought about it, they hadn't helped at all while I was on JSA so I was losing nothing by not going. I had just looked for jobs via computer at home anyway and carried on doing so.0
