I Want To Quit My Job

I have been working at this store for 14 hours a week for 12 weeks, I really dont like it there anymore in general.
- I am going to a family wedding on Saturday and they wont let me have the day off.
- There asking for references and told me they will sack me if I dont get them to them within 3 weeks (I am now one week in to the three weeks)
- They put me down for shifts without asking, thus being my fault if I cant do them.
I am a university student who has been given the chance to work for a massive IT company in Manchester starting in 4 weeks.
I want to just never go in again...
Its the only way I see an out, I shall write a letter & post it to them, giving them a conclusion to my employment.
Is there anything they could do?
I dont need a reference from them, I will never put it down on an application form as the massive IT company should get me where I need to go.
Any help appreciated.

Just tell them you are wanting to leave and work out a last day.I wouldnt just not go back or they might not pay you what they owe you!0

My next shift is today, they refuse to cover my shift for a wedding on Saturday, so I choose to just not go in from then.
I start work in my new job in 4 weeks.0 -

How much notice did you give them about the wedding ?
Maybe they refuse to cover it because no 1 can cover it0 -
If you can't make the shift then they might well sack you - so just make sure you never put them on as a reference. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

the other thing is did you mention the wedding at interview. As most would let you off, but if you haven't then they may not do. I know where I work we have to give a months notice for any time off generally or it can't be covered, so if you haven't given them the notice they may struggle. Same with if you leave them in the lurch, as everywhere always asks for 2 references and you never know when you may need them as a reference:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

How much notice did you give them about the wedding? Do you have friends amongst your workmates who you can switch shifts with to go to the wedding?
You could work another two weeks, get the money, and then be let go because you haven't provided the references (although technically, they are supposed to make the communication themselves - you could get anyone to write anything, couldn't you?
If you can't switch shifts, and you really want to leave, then if the other job is secure, leave. give them notice in writing and state that you will work a week's notice if they require, but you will not be in on Saturday due to personal committments.
Find a bar job or something to cover you for a month. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I dont need them as a reference, I have a previous employer for which I was with for a lot longer.
I gave them 3 weeks notice about the wedding, they said they would get back to me, and then when I told them again, they said I had never told them.
I dont need the money anymore either.0 -
Hand in your notice, don't look back.
Is there a formal holiday request process? Is it in writing anywhere that you said you couldn't work that weekend?
Unless it's in a contract, you only need to give 1 week's notice of resignation0 -

So what are you asking? You don't want the job, don't care that you're leaving them in the lurch, don't need them as a referee....just don't bother going back in. Phone and tell them to stick it - one day an employer might do the same to you....but as long as you get what you want, eh? They might be able to sue for breach of contract but I doubt very much that they will.0 -

If you don't work your notice period they can sue you for breaching your contract and claim for costs such as temporary staff to cover the notice period.
I would.0
