Default

Hi

Two questions.

1. I have a default from 2009 but it is settled how badly will this affect my credit rating.

2. I have a late payment which is listed at an old address (from 1999) it will be removed once I can get Halifax to sort themselves out as it's sb. However in the meantime can lenders see this as I haven't lived at the address for over 10 years?

    1. You probably won't get much credit for the next few years. It's impact will soften with time though. Eventually after 6 years they fall off your rating altogether.

    2. No, defaults don't last longer than 5 years they fall off so no lender will see this anymore.

  • I was wondering if I would be able to get credit before the 6 years ended. :(

It is still on my report I am currently having a row with halifax about it what I wanted to know is because the address is so old will creditors be able to see it if it is on the report.

Yes you will almost certainly still be able to get credit ... but the terms may not be very attractive.

If you can see something on your credit report, then so can any prospective lender who looks.

Some credit, probably. But possibly not at good rates or good deals.

If your credit file has correctly linked the accounts from old and new addresses together, then yes they should show up.

  • So once halifax has removed the old record I will be able to get credit but at a worse rate? As the default is settled and three years old?
