End of the coalition

With the failed Lords vote and Lib Dems throwing their toys out of the cot, could this be the end of the coalition?

We could see Miliband and Balls back in power given just how far ahead they are in the polls.
There's a shocking thought and no doubt would be pretty disastrous for the economy.

I can't see the Lib Dems throwing their toys out the pram just yet.
They sold their souls to the devil for a whiff of power and the public know it. If there was an election tomorrow the Lib Dems would be big big losers. They can't even try and claim the moral highground by claiming a point of principle because Lords reform looks like politicians arguing about politics and who can join their club rather than something the public can get their teeth into.
They need a period of rehabilitation and when they eventually do a flounce it needs to be about something they can spin to the voters.
It also doesn't help that the 'breath of fresh air' Nick Clegg of two years ago looks about 20 years older and much more world weary. I'm not sure he's up for it.0 -
Clegg's only interest is his next job; this will be some sort of European quango/politician.
So there is absolutely no possibility of him quitting the cabinet as that will lower his market value; deputy PM is a lot better than leader of libdems (failed).0 -
We need chaos I hope it goes boobies up.0

I don't think the coalition will fall over this.
It's the same old libdem noise to differentiate them from the tories.
This will enable them to go into the next election with claims they meant to do so many things, if only those nasty tories would have let them.0 -
Having soundly lost the AV referendum, mainstream leftie LibDems like Simon Hughes are desperate to make some sort of political mark, as they'll likely only get one bite of the cherry this eon. the obvious thing to do is hold a referendum but the LibDems can't afford another referendum defeat, which would probably occur. The fact they are now trying blackmail over the boundary changes, which was quid pro quo for the AV referendum, shows what a bunch of disreputable toerags and no-marks many of them are.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

I doubt this is the beginning of the end,it is perhaps the end of the beginning(to quote churchill)
i dont see how much worse a labour govt could make anything, things being as dire as they are, remember we have only seen the effects of 22% of the cuts the tories have proposed and they are dreaming up new ones by the day.
i some how doubt that a labour govt would make the old the sick the diaabled and middle income families pay for the mistakes of the bankers whilst at the same time cutting the top rate of tax0 -

Then you must have an extremely short memory. However useless the Tories have been, much of the mess this country is in (and in more than an economic sense) is down to Mr 'no more boom and bust'.0 -

Some of it is.
A lot more of it is due to the Global Economic problems.
Many of the problems have been building over the last 30 years and politicians have chosen to ignore it.
Individuals who prepared themselves for it are now being hammered."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

No, that would be absolutely disastrous.
If Labour got in they'd almost certainly end up spending their way out of the recession and deferring the cuts until the economy could take it, and comprehensively prove the Tories wrong about markets punishing the UK for changing course.
And then we'd be stuck with 15 more years of deeply illiberal nanny-state nonsense.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
