When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!

Morning!

So yesterday I went and signed up to swimming, feeling guilty about it because it's 23 a month and had to pay a joining fee :( but I will use it and I'm not tied into a year so can cancel anytime. Just need to make sure I go enough times to make it worthwhile! (10 times before 1st August to cover monthly cost and joining fee!! And only 5 after that!)

List for today
  • Check bank done
  • Check cc done
  • Update app with spends done
  • Add swimming fee to budgets done
  • PAD done
  • Lunch from home done
  • 2l of water
  • Go for a run tonight
  • NSD (must do this!!)
  • Finish printing off ACCA notes at work

    Hello there everyone :hello:

Thanks for starting us off bt1. I know what you mean about forking out for a hobby - I sometimes feel guilty about paying out for yoga but then I remember how much it helps me/is good for me and I definitely think that feeling better about myself contributes to how well I can debt bust and how focussed I feel. Also, when I think about paying £30 a month or whatever it sometimes helps to remember that just a few years ago I could spend that on a lunch break on something I didn't even need… And just think if you 'break even' by August then you can feel guilt free and cancel any time you want.

I've not got much going on today; just the usual…
    • Free cuppa x 2 in work
    • Used bus ticket and going home at lunch - getting my money's worth ;)
    • Checking for surveys/sales like a mad woman
    • Bought a lucky dip for tonight's draw cos you never know! :D
    • Got niece's bday wrapping and card from cheapo shop - both for £1 :)
    • OH is applying for jobs
That's all I can think of just now…

    Happy Wednesday everyone :D

  • Good afternoon everyone.

Thanks to bt for starting us off today. Bt/La E, I know what you mean about feeling guilty for a hobby. It's really hard sometimes!

    So today's mse things:

Breakfast, lunch and dinner from stores.

    Check online banking (all normal)

Bit of overtime maybe? Can't focus on it at the moment!

Stick to diet (Have lost 4.5lbs still. Very pleased with progress. Am back under 10 stone. OH has also lost 5/6lbs and is losing his self-termed "fat-shelf"!)

    Charge phone in work (constantly!)

    Erm, dunno what else?

PS: I have done the paypal account verification thingy where they put two small amounts into your account. Does anyone know when they will take them back out? Would just like to know!

Hope everyone else has a good day :)

    Good Afternoon All

bt1 - Thanks for starting us off

Havent really achieved much this morning so far, OH is on "lates" this week so after taking LO to school we've sat and watched another of the many films we own, todays choice was "Hostage" with Bruce Willis in - we've set ourselves a project of watching them and sorting into what we want to keep or charity - going well so far and much cheaper than a trip to the cinema. Enough waffle, todays little list

    Check Banks - Done
    Check swapits - Done
    Ironing
Re-list all items for sale -
    Work (11.30 - 1.30) - Done
Comps - Done, lots (hoping for a few more wins to help with Christmas and birthdays)
Keep up to date with surveys -
Keep on top of emails -
    Quick tidy round - Done
Update food tracker (38lb off) - in progress
    Meals from stores - Done
Read (The Ice Cream Girls (from stash)) - in progress

May not actually achieve everything today as am not sure what I'm doing after school, little one and I talked about going to the cinema but as the sun is shining I think he may change his mind and want to play with his friends instead - so we'll see - he played out instead, so saved lots of money even tho we were going on Orange Wed. Hope you all have a great day everyone, love you all :T

    Today I have/will:

    1. Checked online banking
    2. Put £10 of change in bank
    3. Spent only £1
    4. Took nan to eye hospital and took homemade fruit salad with me as I usually go to Tesco for it but it's always full of apple (I hate apples);)
    5. Sat in park reading my jo nesbo book whilst waiting for my nan.
    6. Keep an eye on M&S sale as I've had my eye on a pair of shoes for a while.
    7. Update spreadsheet
    8. Went to Tesco to pick up my free bag of organic carrots (they sent me a voucher):D

Ziggy: If you like going to the cinema, do you have a vue cinema near you? as they do a cheap tuesday card. I went to see chernobyl diaries with my mother and we only paid £3.65 each (each cinema charges different cheap prices so your nearest may charge a little more) we also got given 2x £1.50 off voucher if we return in a fortnight and can use these in conjunction with the cheap day card.

Ha, yes I was the same. I used to happily spend £100 on a night out, then genuinely not understand how I had no money! So £23 a month isn't much. Plus I WILL break even in the first month!!! I've become so anal about my money ill do it if it kills me!! No wasting! :p

Exactly, bt1! I think I realised how bad I was once when I put £50 in my purse then ended up going out and meeting a group of guys who paid for us all night; the next day I went shopping with my friends and saw a top for £35 and said 'no, I can't afford that'!!! Then I thought 'well why the heck was I willing to spend £50 on booze?!' I've never spent a lot on a night out since.

I'm trying to calm down tonight - I came home to an empty house and OH at the pub. He's called and will only be having 3 pints there but it still pees me off... I'm the one who's working and don't have two pennies to rub together (it's ALL going on bills and min payments to credit cards) but he's got an extra tenner from his dole money to spend in the pub
