Well my pricey air cleaner has been cleaning the air allright but I noticed the humidity in the lounge has dropped like a stone. I'll swear it works as good as a dehumidifier. No good for the dog's bronchitis though - which is why I got the darn thing in the first place :(. Spent an eternity looking at humidifiers and vaporizers then Pineapple had a light bulb moment. The main point of the cleaner is to combat the dust when the stove is on in the winter. A cast iron pan with water on the stove top raises the humidity to just the right level. Sorted at no cost! :T
Almost got caught out by an April Fools spoof news item this morning and I did consider whether to put one on here - a new variety of potato maybe that matures in just 20 days or a heat wave to strike next week.... :rotfl:
On the subject of potatoes the patio is still covered in snow. Reckon I'll need to shift it to make space for planting up potato bags next week. I can't wait any longer!

We have them all the year around as we live close to a couple of small old quarries that are now small lakes. Overrun with them is no understatement LOL. The mess they leave is unbelievable! :D

They need culling to be honest, lots of meat on them ;) OH is anxious to come up with a recipe. Although probably a bit big to shoot with an air rifle, they graze so you could probably get one with a net of some kind ;)
 Geese have a very helpful habit of sleeping at night on the banks of rivers and lakes. It occurs to me that a bit of stealthy work with an old blanket or a net would be entirely possible. My hometown is on two rivers and is infested with Canada geese. You'd have to wring their necks pdq as they're strong and would struggle vigourously.

There is almost certainly a law agin it now but post-SHTF? I'd give it a go.

Have been bootsaling this am and have now acquired enough candles to fill a large shoebox at the parental home. They don't prep but I am determined they shall not go lightless into a powercut.

One can only do what one can do. Be back at my homestead later today and will continue to work on the covert storage of the tinnery and various other bits and bobs. Entirely agree with whomever commented on the Bank Holiday Hysteria which pertains in any supermarket. You could multiply that by 100 if rumours of war/ end of oil/ whatever happened.

:p I could have bought How to Survive the Zombie Apocalpse today for twenny pee but decided not to. I believe in banksters, human stupidity, epidemic flu and lotsa other factors but the zombs have never worried me.

Like my Dad always said about people who get frit of ghosties or cemetaries; it's the living beggars you wanna worry about.

I'm starting to see a worrying trend here where I live.:(

In the last month I have 'lost' 3 neighbours who I have known very well for over 15 years, all of whom are lovely dependable sorts.

All 3 have moved and swapped due to the bedroom tax to smaller places and large families have moved in.

I've yet to meet the new families and so far so good there has been no noise or trouble but it's very sad that communities are starting to break up.

Where I live can be a volatile place at times and I feel comfortable here usually knowing all my neighbours and knowing I have friends I can depend on, very sad state of affairs...

Hi everyone Very cold today but dry, so have a load of washing out on the line. Have been able to dry all my washing this past few days. Was hoping to buy meat and fruit today but both the fruit shop and the butcher are closed for Easter, so will have to wait until they open. Our butcher is such a nice friendly man, and he has given my dh little extra at times. He gave us two burgers and some extra sausages and a little extra lean minced beef before. He is the only butcher we buy from and there are quite a lot on our city. We would really hate it if he was ever to close. He said since the horsemeat scandal broke he has had more customers coming into the shop, so that is good. He would have a big bowl of sweeties on the counter for customers to eat, and there are times when he will fry sausages when they are a new product and cut them up so you can taste them, and buy if you like :) It is little businesses like his which are dying out I feel. We feel so fortunate to have him.
Welcome new people:) You will find us a friendly lot where we enjoy sharing tips with each other, and also support for when times are not so good either.
Take care everyone and keep warm, Margaret xx

I think if they are going to have these rules they should be applied only to new tenants. Imo it's unfair to change the rules retrospectively where someone's home is concerned. Plus I'm sure the issues of over and under occupancy could be partly addressed by revised allocation procedures. I don't think they have thought through the impact on social cohesion. Plus the other side of the coin is the responsibility of the more profligate spawners in society to cut their cloth according to their means!

    I do love spooky! ;)
Hello Mardatha! (Waves at all, new and old faces)

    LOL!

I didn't mean to spook anyone - just that normal is different for different people....

Now if you want spooky, there's an old family story, well, perhaps not.... It is Easter, celebrations, chocolate and all!

Anyway, DDog is snoozing again, whilst OH is building up a nice wood fire. We've planted on seedlings today, tomato, more tomato, lettuce, cabbage, califlower, broad beans, onions, also, I've planted out crocus bulbs, a kind of lily which likes clay soil, dwarf iris in the alpine bed, and risked a dahlia, although covered it in protective fabric.

Then the sun went in, so, we are retreating to the wood fire. DDog will 'test' the heat when it has really got going! :)

Get those chocolates, sit in front of your fire/telly, and unwind folks.

I'm pensive of the future and where we are going yet still have to believe things will work out but how many will be hurt along the way. I know you have to be careful what you read on the internet but from reliable sources some of the stories and articles that are coming out are interesting as well as frightening but largely ignored by the media.

How about this one for now...

    Afternoon everyone!

Hope you've all had a great Easter break.

OH has gone off climbing, so I'm using the opportunity to finish off a baby blanket I'm knitting. It's currently blocking, pinned to one of OH's gym mats (sssh, he'll never know, the pin holes are on the underneath..!)

I just got off the phone to my Mum.. Sigh.. Her health is so bad, and I am so worried. I would move up back to be with them, but there is literally zero work in that area for me and OH's professions (been there, tried it, one year later and seriously broke I had to move back down south again), also I really struggle with Mum's mental health. Selfish I know but to be able to help them I also need to be a distance away, if that makes sense.

It's pretty damn cold here, so trying to keep warm but air our tiny, mouldy, horrible flat at the same time is proving to be a challenge... Grateful for my hot water bottle!

    xx
