:p The worst bit about my last MRI was that they were offering me a selection of three radio stations to listen to and one of them was our local city station, referred to by me as Halfwit FM, I detest it's idiot babbling DJs so much. Nooooo, anything but that......!

I don't recall the dye as having a smell but they put it in my arm (they were scanning my brain).

;) I've had several brainscans as they played Hunt the Tumour. My MRIs have to go to the big monthly meeting of the top radiologists for interpretation. The experts say that certain parts of my brain are unusually shaped but within the known bounds and not tumourous.

GQ; officially weird on the inside...........:rotfl:

:) I've seen her on the Thanks button in the last day or so. She has/ is about to have a new job and I guess she may be very busy.

Perhaps she'll read this and pop in for a quick "hi".

Interesting posts today. GreyQueen have a look for this book in your library
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intellectual-Life-British-Working-Classes/dp/0300153651/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363900540&sr=8-1

What you said about your Dad put me so much in mind of this. It's a lovely, inspiring book BTW - not a dry academic tome
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

:) Thanks for that, I've jotted down the title and will look for it on the library online cataglogue tomorrow. Can't be bothered with that library site tonight, it's a bit clunky and slow and I'm going offline shortly.

We think we have it bad on the roads in south Africa my friend says that they are stealing man hole covers to sell Onto metal dealers. Do not travel at night walking on unlit paths danger.

We've had that in the UK, or at least my part of it for a few years. Though currently the focus seems to be on wrought iron gates rather than grates and covers.

Morning all from snowy Yorkshire! :D It's fair windy, too, so prob not going out today, the schools are all shut anyway, and we've plenty to do.

GQ and MRSLW - fully agree with your posts, and have always thought likewise. For someone not yet 50, I had a fairly old-fashioned and thrifty childhood, and still know how to do all sorts of odd things, even if I'm a bit rusty. A few people I know are almost at the LBM stage - I'll be ready to catch them when they land! :rotfl:

A neighbour on my road disturbed lead thieves on the top of her bay window the other night, around 2 am, when they were in bed - what cheek! Hopefully the snow will have put them off for the rest of the week now. We had a spate of lead thefts a few years ago, about 4 houses had theirs nicked, one house twice (and he's the vicar!).

GQ, your talk of your dad reminded me of my granddad, who went to the local technical college to train to be a baker, and followed in his dad's footsteps. He had a sister, and his parents were unusual for those times, in that my great-aunt was as involved in the business as her brother, they both read anything they could get their hands on, and my granddad's over-riding mentality was that if you could do nothing else, then learn to read well, as you could learn anything else you couldn't do. My parents were the same, and their general knowledge (on top of their work-related knowledge) was amazing - dad always won the pub quiz and they vied with each other for who got the most questions right on Mastermind or University Challenge! :rotfl: Even my nearly-6 year old can spot a grocer's apostrophe, and the teachers think he's very clever - not that clever, just better taught by his parents and the system!

Sorry to waffle, not had much breakfast and blood sugar's low! :D

    Morning all,
Maryb (just typed Marby by mistake!!) thanks for the book link - that looks like a really interesting read and I can already envisage my personal book wish list lengthening as I read it! There's a fair bit of discussion of the intellectual side of life in the Road to Wigan Pier also.

We have a blizzard here this morning - the fishing boat is off so all safely home. Was supposed to be travelling to Glasgow for out-patients (2.5 hours) but have decided to stay home - an unexpected bonus. Can see a lot of baking and knitting in my day!
