Howe about "arserage"?I was trying not to be vulgar, but trust you to drag down the tone, Bob.
I suppose I could tell you that I had the dibber out this evening for it's annual outing (transplanting leeks) but that would be just too easy, wouldn't it? G'wan, it's an innuendo, run with it.:p
Oh, and TVL sent me their 6th harrasssing letter this year. Went straight thru the shredder unopened. For you TV watchers out there, do you feel that you're getting good value for money when they won't take no for an answer from the great unwashed like me?
Didn't get in until 8.45 pm and am a tired little bunny, so off to lie on the sofa and read an improving book. The Death of Money by James Rickards. Highly recommended. I may follow it up with something a bit distracting, possibly with elves (or werewolves) as I wouldn't want to give onlookers the impression that I was an in-tea-lect-u-al. Nah, just have a magpie mind and lots of interests.
G'night, preptastic peeps. See ya tomoz, if we're spared.
PS nuatha, if you're out there, please touch base with the thread, we miss you. Hope all is OK with you and the family.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Got a good winter 3 in 1 jacket today. Very pleased with it.
A while ago we were offered a chicken coop and small run. Don't know whether to take up the offer or not.
Bit worried about vermin.
We kept hens at our previous house but here the garden is much smaller and we have some decking, sheds and three gardens adjoining ours.
I also saw a rat running across the picnic area at the park across the road from us.
Anyone an urban hen-keeper on here? Advice please
Also need to get some mouse mesh for the airbricks round our house.
Jax no longer allows any cats in our garden :rotfl:
We keep 3 chickens in our small almost-edge-of-town garden. We are in a terrace, so there are 2 gardens immediately adjoining ours. Another neighbour keeps pigeons, and another couple have children's pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs in hutches and runs. There was a rat problem locally last winter, but nothing to do with our chickens (or the pigeons or rabbits etc, which are kept very clean) - there were loads of them on the large tracts of farmland and wasteland between here and the river. We did have some come in the garden (OH dealt with those), as did the neighbours. The Council were dealing with the problem away from the gardens, where they were coming from, as lots of other roads, and the park, were affected as well. The probable cause was the farmer having left the waste from his maize crop overwinter, providing plenty of food for them. Once he had ploughed it up, they seemed to disappear. We keep the food in the conservatory and bring the feeder in overnight during winter - rats are rarely a problem in the summer, as they are happy to stay out in the fields. We also keep the garden very tidy, to avoid having places where they can hide. Not sure about decking though, as we have never had it.0 -

I already offered you the use of my dibber.0 -
ETA If the price of chocolate is going to go up, perhaps it will be the push I need to give it up.....I somehow doubt it though . And it doesn't keep for years and years, unlike some things. As for the olive oil, I suppose I'll just have to use less
It will if you put it in a jar and vacuum seal it.0 -
GQ we do have a TV and do pay for a licence but I find particularly the BBC dull, dull, deathly dull and about as intellectual as the Beano! I abhor those 'circus and mirrors' programmes like strictly come making a fool of yourself and as for old chestnuts like Countryfile? even the Zebra child at 18 months would be yawning at the infantile stupidity of the presenters, and the content that is aimed at the unknowing townies who think the countryside is roses round the doors of thatched cottages, yeah!!! We watch mostly the sport but to do this we purchased a Sky Sports package and we like the detective dramas so mostly watch Alibi on re runs! I find most evenings I disappear into a good book rather than have the TV on at all. The Beeb has lost the plot, the cost of the licence is eyewatering and the content of most of their programmes and the continual replays of old programmes make it not value for money, so very sad that to watch anything you have to buy one!0

Howe about "arserage"?It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

You don't need to buy one, to watch anything.
Without one, you can legally watch:-
Catchup.
Youtube.
Netflix, Lovefilm etc.
DVDs, Bluerays and Video tapes.
The only thing you can't watch (or record) is LIVE broadcasts.0 -
Alternatively, you could put it in the freezer - but there ARE some of us (naming no names here:p) that have discovered its possible to eat it straight out of the freezer.:)0
