So glad the situation is now under control, GQ; three cheers for your Mum! I dream of one day having some space somewhere that isn't festooned with airing washing...

Off shortly to North Wales for my aunt's funeral tomorrow, by a devious route; half of the normal route seems to have been closed for repairs. My one worry is that going via several small towns I don't normally see, will lead me past a number of interesting car boot sales, just at the start of the season... I'll keep repeating I must not stop! under my breath; I'm meeting one of my brothers halfway, where our routes converge, leaving my car there and lift-sharing the rest of the way, so I need to get to the meeting place in good time.

I'm willing to bet that my brother's beloved sports car won't have much in the way of blankets, first aid kits, emergency supplies etc. but that said, we're not straying all that far off the motorway & well-travelled A roads. Off to brush up my very-minimal Welsh - but horrors, what I know is South Walian, as our young friend's North Welsh wife keeps pointing out patiently!

Sorry to hear about the airing cupboard crisis, GQ - hope it gets fixed quickly on Monday.

Interesting article in the Sunday Telegraph about prepping for a foreign invasion:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/lithuania/11487802/Putins-war-of-attrition-Is-Lithuania-next.html

Apparently if invaded, you should hinder the enemy by doing your job inefficiently and badly...

:rotfl:Well you have to see the funny side to a comment like that .....as to "I thought that was how many people did their jobs anyway....so how would you tell the difference?"

Must admit I think ISIS and general Muslim extremism are by far the bigger threat to world peace and peoples own way of life.

Your mum sounds a bit like my MIL GQ. My MIL has been, during our current period of no washing machine, doing the odd basket of laundry for us (we go to the local laundrette otherwise). And it tends to come back neatly folded and ironed.

She outdid herself the other day though. We were supposed to be home for her to drop off a couple of items and pick up a little bit, but had been unexpectedly held up. So she let herself in... took the dirty laundry... and the clean basket of laundry ready for ironing... then rewashed and ironed the whole darned lot. She really is my little housework fairy at present!

mardatha Thanks for mentioning kittie yesterday (or it may have been the day before, but I read your post yesterday!) I've been thinking of her too.

If you're reading along from time to time kittie,(or even if you're not) we're thinking of you and send good wishes xx

Well that definitely applies to their broadband service and the banks as well.

I am have posted this here before but that is basically what the East Europeans did whilst under Soviet rule.

My friends found that whilst there was a lengthy (multiple year) official waits for household goods nearly all young couples started marriage with most white goods.

The local workers worked slowly so as not to support the Soviet government. They routinely shifted parts out of the factories which would be assembled whenever a local young couple were setting up home.

Which stuffed the state system twice over.

How will they get those house boats out?
